Interesting, in 4 years, I've warned them only once...when I made a $6K purchase...usually, I don't warn them if the purchase in less than $2-$3K...

I figure it's overkill on my part, but I did finally get the last CSR to tell me that as long as they saw charges popping up within a 200 or so mile radius of my home, I'd be OK. It's just that since I have no idea what my Secret Mysterious Invisible charge card limit is, I don't know when I'll go over.

yeah, better to play safe than sorry.,,overtime you'll develop your sense of the "amex force" that will help you sense when and when not to call, lol....j/k...Smiley Happy

I called them when I was going out of state to Delaware when I first got my card. They seemed pretty happy that I called to let them know.

Cell phones are medium risk-
Easily sold on the open market-

It was at TMobile where I was purchasing a new phone.

Concord, I have both Chase and Citi. Citi gave me 6k and 0 APR on BTs for 15 months. I gladly transfered all outstanding balances to it. It sits in the sock drawer until util comes down.

I carry Chase as my backup. I have the Freedom card with a 15k balance. I like the rewards of the Freedom card.

However, I am trying to run all charges through my Green so it doesn't hurt my util. This is twice my accounts have been locked without my knowledge just on a whim. If they do it again I'm done with them.

I'd love to have a Discover. In fact, they just shot me down again today.

Re: Amex froze my account yet again!

My advice- Keep off AMEX's radar
PIF- spread out apps- keep utl low, keep scores up-

I would go for Discover- EXCEPT
I want my Avg age back over 4 years
I don't want anymore EX inq's
I really don't have a place for it in my wallet (ran out of room) Smiley Wink

Sheesh -  looking at your scores posted above, they're better than mine.  Discover is becoming so neurotic!

I completely agree. I've wanted a Discover for a long time...but I really don't need it, don't want it to hurt my already young history, and don't have the back pocket space...maybe decades from now if they come out with a product that completely blows me away!

Re: Amex froze my account yet again!

I applied for a Discover card last month and got approved on line. It did not say what the credit limit was so I called. They gave me a CL of $15000 with a Ex. FICO score of 718.

When I received my card, I called to activate it and they were extremely nice and professional. I also found out all their call centers are in the USA which made me extremely happy. It also seems they have more security to registering your card online which is a big plus to me.

I think Discover is taking the place of AMEX and I have two AMEX cards, one being the Platinum card.

I don't mean this in any kind of negative way, but when you say cell phones are medium risk, are you being serious or sarcastic? I can't see how it could be considered a risk more than buying a 12 pack of beer or something. Don't people's phones break all the time?

If that's a risk, then what if I did end up buying a gun at the gun show? Down here in Virginia guns are fairly commonplace.

This is kind of lame that I have to worry about the differences between purchases I make. As long as I keep PIF'ing several times a week they really shouldn't care.

I know! I'll go to a strip club when I'm in Vegas in a couple weeks. Then I'll hire a hit man with my Amex card! Then I'll pay for a lawyer with it!
