It happened to me when I first opened my BCE card and tried to purchase giftcards from Amex's portal. All they did was verify information and talk to me about their services then unlocked my account. It's probably just that as others have mentioned.
Yeesh. I just got my BCE in the mail yesterday, wife got her BCP the day before. I wonder if we should just call Amex and tell them we want to get it out of the way voluntarily. Seems better than being unexpectedly declined at the grocery store ![]()
@Middleswarth wrote:I had that happen within a couple weeks of opening my BCE. I tried to purchase a new laptop and was declined. I called customer service who told me to call someone else (fraud department or something similar). I had to do a conference call with the Amex rep and my bank to verify information. Once done the rep had me try the purchase again while he was still on the phone. It worked and I have not had another issue since. I even got my 61 day increase without a problem (went from 10k to 19.3k).
As long as the information you gave them when you applied is accurate I would not worry about it.
But he opened the cards in his wife's name.

And if they file jointly and are at least in the same number of digits of income as was stated, then they will be fine.
