Amex got a bit concerned. :)

I just got my Premier rewards gold card from Amex about 2 weeks ago and I had a 50k points bonus after spending 2k in 90 days. I hit it in a week. Smiley Surprised Amex called me on Friday and asked how much more I planned to put on it before the first statement cut because they usually take a year to learn their customers spending patterns. I said no problem and just had the rep PIF from my bank account. She was really happy after that and said I was a great customer. lol I don't know if me using it that much, that fast, is good or bad but I also have a Delta Skymiles Gold card that has a bonus and I'm putting all expenses on it now. Should hit that bonus in 2 weeks, I will patiently await their next call. Smiley Happy

Re: Amex got a bit concerned. :)

At least they called you. DH got his Green card in June and we happened to go on vacation soon after, so put $3200 on it. They shut the limit down soon after until we made a payment a few days later. The next month, we put about $1000 on it and as the due date approached...about 7 days out they not only completely shut the green card down but they also shut down his BCE. Granted he is barely in with them due to BK13 discharge earlier this year, but still very annoying! We were surprised that they took such excessive action 7 days BEFORE the due date. I made a payment that day and they released the block the next day.

Re: Amex got a bit concerned. :)

It was probably their outbound department for fraud calling to verify the charges were actually yours. I work for TSYS and we do fraud security, CS, disputes, etc. for over 80 banks and credit unions and typically we have to watch out for fairly new accounts with high spending upon the opening of the account that way we can try and see if its a case of identiy theft with a fraudulent application. Also high spending when their system doesn't know you're pattern could also trigger some declines/holds. But nothing a simple call or alert response couldn't fix.

I think the only amex cards we service is BBVA Compass AMEX .

Enjoy the points!

I guess a call is better than a "declined". Sorry to hear about your vacation mishap, that would ruin an otherwise happy day for me.

Depending on how amex works for your particular card, they'll try and contact you before they decline you unless the charge its self is super out of the ordinary for your account.b

Certainly good that you’re hitting bonuses early like that. Sets up a good relationship in the future where they won’t freak out with big spend. Once things have been established with them, any future cards you open won’t have the same problem. SPG and Delta cards I exceeded the signup bonus spend on the first charge on both of them and they didn’t bat an eye.

Good to hear. I'm still a little gun shy about angering the credit gods but now that my BK is finally off my report and I'm firmly in the six figures at work I think I need to change my mentality regarding banks. What have you done for me lately? lol

Years after DMP, I was able to get credit from anyof the CCCs that I had in the DMP program that I wanted to, even BofA.  Ironically the only company I won't do buisness with is AE because the cancled my Blue card when I entered DMP even though I was never late and I didn't include that card in the program.   You won't miss much in giving them a pass.  LOL if you do tell them I told you to do that.

Aww, that sucks but I actually knew I was on the road to recovery when I started getting Amex offers in the mail. Applied for the green to test the waters but now I have the PRG, the DSM and the BCE. I gotta say they have been very kind to me. Smiley Happy

Re: Amex got a bit concerned. :)

I barely got in with amex 8 months ago. When I first got my PRG I tried to pay at a pump, was declined and they called to verify. I haven't heard from them since. I tend to run up very high balances in 2-3 days and it doesnt seem to bother them. Just last week, i spent 12k in 3 days and its still working (knock on wood). I went and requested my 2nd 3x cli on my BCE and was approved. So I think its all good with amex as long as you pay as agreed.
2019 Spend Summary
