I've always heard here and all over the net that if you have an Amex you're better off paying it in full to avoid aa or any other type of interrogation from Amex, but something weird happened to me recently.
So I checked my mail recently, and had a promotion APR offer on my Delta Gold Amex....
I've used this card very lightly. Opened in 2012, and have put maybe 100-200 a month pif before statement cuts, after of course powering through the first 500 spend to get the bonus. I only use it around the time my BCE statement cuts and can't use BCE to make sure it reports at 0. So I think I got dinged with interest once, but that's it. my APR is 15.24 on the Delta Gold...
Anyway, they sent me a promo offer: every transaction that I spend which is $500 or more will get a special promo APR of 9.99$ for 12 months, then it goes back to the 15.24%.
now for carrying a balance 9.99% really isn't that good of a deal. It is however, unlike Amex to offer this type of thing. They must really be wanting me to carry a balance with them. It's very funny how these creditors work.....
anyone else get these offers??
I do need new tires for my Bimmer soon, buuuuuuut I did just ge ta 0% Arrival card so 9.99% is far too high to pay imo. lol
Well I agree it is not really competitive as most others offer me 0% promo for 12-18 months with 2% BT fee.....and 9,99% is my regular APR on 2 cards. But it is indeed strange to see such offers coming from AX to carry a balance..
I haven't received/heard of an offer like that. I have occasionally carried a small balance and there have been no issues.
I did contact AMEX last month (after reading a post on here) and was able to permanently lower my APR from 15.24 to 12.24.
Received this letter today. Thought it was a joke/scam...if I was going to carry a balance but wanted to buy something on my Amex for purchase protection/warranty, I would just buy it on the Amex and BT to a card with a good rate and probably no BT fee...or even if it was a one time 3%, it would still be much better than Amex's 9.99%...it's not FIXED for the period of the offer, it says 9.99% variable
I got the same offer today. I guess almost everyone with the AMEX Delta got it too.
I got this letter today, mine says 6.99% variable. Doesn't matter, I am not in need of carrying a balance right now, and if the need occurs, I will use one of my newer cards that are still in the 0% into period.
6.99% promo APR offer here. I got the offer last week over the phone when I PC'd from the Delta Gold to Hilton HHonors (no AF). Even though I was dropping Delta Amex I still was eligible to take the offer on the new card.
Thought I got the offer from being one of those always-PIF customers, but it sounds like it could be a majority of those with Delta Amex got it.

Be careful relying on such generalizations.
