Amex maximum amount of cards issued

I read on another site that an individual can only have up to 4 AmEx cards.

Has anyone else heard of this?

I know I should just go sit in the corner and shut up, but I gotta ask .... Why would you need or want 5 or 7 AmEx cards? .... or Visa cards for that matter?

You need it for the average age of accounts. AMEX allows you to backdate every card to your original member date, which increases your AAoA.

Re: Amex maximum amount of cards issued

Should have added that this is for new account holders from 2009 and up.

If you had an AmEx prior to then, the rule doesn't apply

I've also read this. Though, I was able to get 5 personal revolving AmEx CCs, plus my AmEx Corporate.

1) Blue Cash (original w/ tiered cashback plan)

2) Mercedes AmEx

3) BCE

4) Hilton HHonors

5) Clear

Note: # 4 & 5 above were approved on the same day, under manual review. So, that may be why I was able to get 5.

If at first you don't succeed; Garden for 6 months, then try again.

Work the system. Don't let the system work you.

because each has there own benefits. Zync has rewards on stuff that no other AMEX cards don't,  Then the BCE or BCP have cash rewards, Including up to 6% rewards on some catagories.so Then we move into Travel reward cards and get other benefits tied to those cards, Green cards converts all your MRE points from standard blue and zync cards to MR points that have much higher value. Gold and Platinum and Centurion cards bring lots of other goodies if you travel alot. I am happy with my 2x AMEX cards Zync and Blue next year may add BCE or BCP depending on deals availible, and possibly Green for a year if they offer AF waived on the first year combined with MRE points conversion.

of course the other main feature is backdating, if you have a 12 year relationship with AMEX 5 cards is equivalent to 60 years of card history.

Cards: Chase Southwest 20k & CSR 17k & CSP 10k & FNBO 30k Oregon Duck 5k, & AMEX BCP 32.5k & Amex Magnet 15k&amg; Hilton Surpass 7.5k & Delta Gold 12k & Zync NPSL, Fidelity AMEX 17k Commerce5.9k & Cash Forward 7.5k & Sams Club MC 20k, Paypal Extras MC 10k, Paypal Credit 7.25k CapOne Venture 15k, QS 2.5k, QS 750, Amazon 10k, Walmart 10k, Citi Simplicity 18k, Discover IT 23k and a nice stack of store cards.
