Re: Amex maximum exposure?????

About 16k in grad loans. No car loan. 33k cu home improvement. 1.5k installment loan, 131k balance on home, 5.5 x 2 on 2 CU cards. I have more credit than I need, I was just shocked since I haven't had a 1k approval since undergrad. Only Amex knows, and they aren't talking, lol.

Re: Amex maximum exposure?????

I thought the advice was to pull your CR's, get the letter and then go from there. I'm not trying to be rude and I'm the first one to advocate calling but it seems like you'd be best served if you were prepared. I agree with Crashem that their list of whys won't really be telling but at least you'll have a better idea of what they are seeing and when you do decide to contact them you will be prepared.

The balance on the mtg is low. Should not have factored against him with the reported income IMO

Re: Amex maximum exposure?????

On the bright side.... You can have a 81k CL card by the 20th month, assuming Amex approves you for the full 3X CL each time. So it's really not a big deal.

If you want to appeal your CL, chances are they will ask you for tax docs and any other relevant document just for someone to manually review your file. So, if you are not prepared to submit these documents for any reason, its best to just wait for the CLI windows.

Re: Amex maximum exposure?????

American Express just does not approve some people for high limits. My mom makes a lot and they gave her 2000. She's tried to raise the limit and they always say debt too high, but she doesn't really have much. Maybe a few thousand reports each month(paid off) and a few thousand a month is not even 1% of her income.

I really dislike that they won't let you talk to anyone about any credit decisions. Its always just the "new accounts" team and they don't seem to be able to do anything other than process it with a computer. They gave a me 3000 on a new card when they were supposed to transfer the 6000 from the card I closed. I tried everything, even twitter, and kept getting sent back to the new accounts team who said there was nothing they can do. I have no debt at all and less than 2000 reporting on one card, which is miniscule compared to income. However, they just don't seem to want to give any kind of decent limit to me, besides the measly 12,000 they gave me last month. I say choose another lender that wants your business.
