Amex question....

10.5 years ago I had to file Bankruptcy chapter 7 and included an Amex Credit Card.  Fastforward 10 years later with a credit score of over 700 and under 5% utilization on CC would I be able to get approved for an Amex Card?  I've looked online and seen people say they get black listed and also other people say they've been approved after they defaulted or had something simliar to what happened to me.

Anyone experience this personally?

Re: Amex question....

You're blacklisted. The amount of time will vary depending on how much of a loss they took. The only way to see if you're off the blacklist is to apply. If you're blacklisted, you'll be denied without a HP. If you're denied with a HP, you don't meet their criteria, but you're off the blacklist. If you're approved, enjoy your new amex.

This.   Generally (i.e. not quite always) a necessary condition to get off is to pay the charged off amount.  Then you need to consider whether paying (depending on the amount) vs the perceived value of an Amex makes doing this worthwhile.  (And paying doesn't guarantee success).  So many here might pay off a $200 debt, $20K is more iffy IMO!

Re: Amex question....

Right now, Amex is denying people with solid profiles who never burned them, so I really wouldn't even try at this point.

It's possible you're off the BL, but it's also very possible HP would result in denial at this time.

I'd wait with application.
