The main thing about AmEx for their biggie cards is that they don't don't want to see any BK's at all, whatsoever, no lates of any kind within the last two years, and probably some others as well.
They have some cards (Delta, Starwood, Hilton Honors) with lower score requirements, and many people call and use the magic phrase "product change" to switch to a different card, usually one of the Blues. BUT they haven't figured out what to do with this new credit demographic, and they are famous for almost immediately asking you to report all your financial facts of life after you get your card.
They seem to have an internal war going as to whether they want to expand their customer markets or not.
So if you do this, great, but keep a non-AmEx card handy, and be prepared to give all the details of your financial life. I don't think it's out of line for them to ask this, but I do think that they ought to ask this upfront, if they're going to pucker up about having you as a cardholder.
