Amex upgrade question AF

I received an invitation from Amex to upgrade the gold card to the platinum, with a 100k MR bonus, right before my AF was about to hit. I took the offer and upgraded. A couple days later my card arrived and even changed to the platinum card in my Amex app. 

I was just hit with a $250 AF on my account. Will I be responsible for paying this in addition to the Platinum AF of $695? Or will I be charged the Platinum AF less the $250? Or am I just responsible for the $250 AF for the first year? 

Any incite would be greatly appreciated!

It should be the difference between the two.  You pay the pro-rated AF for the new card and get a refund for the pro-rated AF of the old card.
