Amex upgrade rules

I recently downgraded from BCP but received a email to upgrade for $150 statement credit after $1000 spend and $0 annual fee for first year. I don't see the offer when I login to Amex, only through the email.  Is this a legit offer I can do? Or is this a trap card?

If it's from "americanexpress(AT)member.americanexpress(DOT)com" then it sounds legit in the sense of not being a scam.

You can later close or downgrade the card (*after a full 12 months*)...just like you already recently did.

It's not unusual to get an upgrade bonus offer shortly after downgrading. I went EDP-ED-EDP in the span of about a month and a half.

Be sure you use the link in the email! And ideally take and save screenshots of the offer.

I just got the same email and upgraded my CM to BCP. 

I would also personally wait until the 2nd AF posts to downgrade again, i.e. 2 years rather than 12 months. I wouldn't be surprised if Amex claws back the $150 bonus if you downgrade before paying the AF, and even if they don't, I'd rather not risk running afoul of their internal algorithms. If anyone can comment more on this, please do — am I being too paranoid? Anyone downgrade BCP after 12 months and run into issues?

I downgraded EDP recently after about 17 months (two partial years). No AA yet. In fact I got 40k to re-upgrade a month and a half after downgrading.
