Amex vs WEMC extended warranty?

So I always said that I would never use such a benefit but as my Xbox One X decided to kick the bucket and I’m like three months out of warranty and facing a $229 bill or a new console, I am kicking myself because I used my Disco for it last year (although I’m not so sure if it would have made a difference since I paid with PayPal and while it was a brand new item I bought it on eBay, I’m sure there’s some exclusions there but I usually don’t use eBay anyway) and of course as we all know Disco doesn’t have any benefits anymore.

So for my future purchases, I’m curious which of my cards would be best. I’ve got the Cash Magnet and the Savor One which both seem to have doubling of the warranty up to 24 months so going forward, I know it’s better to just use one of those if I’m not going to buy a protection plan (which I usually do, I didn’t in this case), I’m just curious about people’s experiences. I have at least some evidence at Amex seems to be pretty good about this but rarely hear about a higher end MasterCard claim.

Re: Amex vs WEMC extended warranty?

I don't know if it has been officially confirmed, but there has at least been a lot of highly credible speculation that WEMC will be discontinuing the extended warranty and price protection features as part of a benefit overhaul (adding phone protection on some cards, as well as Lyft and Postmates perks). I say "highly credible" because the reports were right about the perks that MC would be adding.

Given that, I'd go with Cash Magnet for good benefits and a straightforward claims process.

If you had a major Citi card (like the Costco Visa, DC MC, AA Platinum MC, etc...but not the Citi Retail cards like Best Buy Visa), there might be room for debate between Amex and Citi.

Personal spend: Amex Gold, Amex Schwab Plat., BofA PR+CCR(x2), Costco
Business use: Amex Bus. Plat., BBP, Lowes Amex AU, CFU AU
Perks: Delta Plat., United Explorer, IHG49, Hyatt, "Old SPG"
Mostly SD: Freedom Flex, Freedom, Arrival
Upgrade/Downgrade games: ED, BCE
SUB chasing: AA Platinum Select

Re: Amex vs WEMC extended warranty?

Yes I guess if that does indeed go away, Amex would win by default.

I’m pretty sure it’s going to be Amex who wins anyway and that wouldn’t really bother me since the Cash Magnet has a higher base earning rate anyway, I am just curious how much hassle it actually is to claim the benefit.

It’s a real bummer that my Xbox decided to kick the bucket right after I just signed up for 3 years worth of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate so I’m probably going to buy a new one and just put it on my Cash Magnet next month after I pay the bill (I would do it now but they still haven’t bumped my limit to $3K despite actually even sending me snail mail congratulating me on my increase so hopefully me starting off by PIF will help).

Re: Amex vs WEMC extended warranty?

Last time I checked on extended warranty which I will and was quite a while ago. I preferred the Amex extended warranty because I think it was all done in house as opposed to other cc that used third party.
