The rep told me that the $39 could not be removed. After I insisted and insisted she finally talked to her manager and was told that I could cancel the card since it only had the $39 fee on the balance and the $39 would be waived or returned back to me. Not sure if they're going to take it out and refund or not take it out at all, I guess we'll see. I canceled the card and reapplied for the 1-2-3 card. The woman kept telling me that it was a better card with the 3% gas, 2% groceries, 1% everything else but the cash reward had it too. Is the cash rewards card different from the 1,2,3 card??

Cool thing - My credit limit went from only about 800 on my 3 year old card to $3k on my new card. 3 years and only a $300 credit increase since I asked for it last year lol.

I wish I could  have kept my 2011 history. Will this affect my credit score at all now that it has been canceled and will no longer be a 2011?

I'm so jealous of you wmweeza! If only I received the same letter. I opened mine yesterday only to read from "customer saticfaction" that they were charging me $39 for being such a good loyal customer! =D

I wish I had an explanation for why they like me so much, then maybe I could be of more help. I charge about $30-75 a month (out of a $5400 limit) PIF each month, sometimes I let a balance report, sometimes not. I don't track statement dates etc I just make sure I PIF. Somehow they like me, I wish I knew why so I could help others

Re: Annual fee question..

Maybe someone in the BoA office keeps an eye out on you! Or maybe your doing something right. Smiley Wink

Ive lurked this forum many times and hear of people getting random increase limits all the time and for 2 years I was $500 with no increase! Never late. Maybe the problem was I would sometimes have $200/$500 report, sometimes $300. $500 is easy to rack up. Though I always paid in full and never late.

Oh well. I'm happy to be free of the annual fee. Now I can go buy something worth $39 and feel like it was free.

I had the secured card that was unsecured with the $39 fee, I totally forgot about the fee until I was looking at the account one day.  I called and spoke to someone in the credit department who was able to completely remove the fee.

I don't know if it helps that I have 6 checking accounts, 2 savings accounts and two credit cards with them though, but ymmv. Smiley Happy

How long have you had a credit profile? That's a pretty impressive score to have just two cards!

Re: Annual fee question..

So does this mean my history will still show up as 2011 even though I just canceled that oldest card? Smiley LOL

... I asked the rep last year if they could remove my annual fee completely and she said I would have to cancel it and reapply! I figured since I recently paid the $39, I might as well ride it out for another year. I didn't have that many accounts with them though, just that CC and a debit. Smiley Surprised

Yes that card will show 2011 for 10 years so in 2025 it will disappear. Your new card will show as 2014

Not sure exactly how to answer so I'll try to give you a brief run down (I don't get my score either honestly, though I have seen a couple of people on here with similar stories with a high score, so it's weirdly possible).

The short answer? I've had my BofA card since 2011, added the Target card in 2013, and hubby added me as an AU on his card (it's not in my signature because that feels weird, it doesn't feel like it's "Mine".)

The longggg answer:

C&P from an earlier post I made

I was like many people stupid with my money and credit when I was young. Though I didn't rack up a ton of bills and only had a few credit cards, a whole bunch of small bills piled up. I had no ability to pay. I was in a motorcycle wreck, a car pulled out in front of us and we almost made it around the car, but my leg caught the trunk...it wasn't pretty, but I digress...back to credit now.   It only got worse when I dated someone with even worse credit then I had, everything went to collections for the few years we were together. I ended up paying a few bills on what meager income I had, and shut off my phone and ignored my mail for years. Yes, I just tuned it all out and went about my business. I only had one collection really come after me, I'm amazed at that.

Fast forward to when I had a decent job,I finally got a phone again and started gradually paying what bills i knew I owed, my situation wasn't fantastic but I was handling things as an adult should and paying back my debts and doing okay, but living with no credit. I have no idea what my credit score was at all during this time frame (96-2001).

When I met my now husband and we eventually decided to move in together we had the big credit talk, and as embarrassing as it was I laid everything on the table as to what I thought I owed and why. We decided on a plan of action: get together all the bills, get all my credit reports and tackle each one and pay as we went. Little by little items were paid and then we'd follow up and ask for deletion. It wasn't a quick process by any means, and we lived on a strict budget. I had exactly $100 spending money a month, if I couldn't buy what I wanted with that then I'd have to save up.

Gradually I had a clear report and a clean name but still no credit so in 2011 I applied for my first card, secured of course. I treated that like it was my credit baby and in 2012 it unsecured. I was such a credit novice that when they sent me the funds back in my account from the deposit  I panicked and called them to make sure there wasn't an error and I somehow ended up with someone else's money.

Now I have 3 cards, free and clear, my credit report is clean as a whistle and shockingly as of 3 months ago my credit score was 804 from myFico Experian.
