So I realize the maximum number of accounts allowed is 2 per customer... In 6 months my boyfriend will be eligible for #2 and in 11 more months I will be... If we add each other as AU's onto our current cards, the reports will reflect us each having 2... But 1 will be an AU... Will Discover Card's system realize they are AU, and approve our second actual accounts, or will it consider us maxed and deny due to having 2 accounts?
ALSO: Speaking on an average or typical occurrence -- on the SECOND card -- is the Credit Limit usually higher, lower, or about the same as your current card?
Thanks!!!
2 accounts is two accounts... if you are an AU, it counts as an account for the max of 2 accounts...
The second card sometimes can be higher, sometimes not... depends on your scores.... Discover does use ABS.... Asset Based Securities, not as strictly as some banks though... (cough Capital One)

You can have a personal card, and an au card,
You can have two personal cards.....
And regarding ancedotal: If you dont have an overly high limit discover, the second one can come in higher than the first... presuming your credit has significently improved... but remember it also depends on income.... Pretty sure if i apped for a second disco, it would be approved but a heck of a lot lower than the first.....most financial institutions have a limit they are willing to extend to a customer at a given time and profile...

My head is spinning here.
First, there is mention of a wife.

Then from memory there was a mention of a girlfriend and roommates, but not a wife.
Now there is mention of a boyfriend.
I'm confused. Are the two of you sharing the same account?

Well after reading that thread, it kinda looks to me that the account is being shared with the husband and a boyfriend and at same time! 🤪

Well, now I'm even more confused. Is the husband and boyfriend together? 🤷♂️
At any rate, OP, there can be any number of variables when applying for a 2nd Discover card. The SL can be either lower or higher than your current one - it all boils down to overall profile and your existing Discover account. Here's a thread that can provide you with some insight and DPs:
Dr Phil intervention??
Sort of related question here. Does anyone know what would happen if someone hit their ceiling limit wise on their Discover card but then applied for another? Is that single card limit equal to total exposure limit, or can one still be approved for another product even after maxing out one limit wise?

*If* you've hit the UW max or ceiling they won't approve any additional extensions. You'll know when you apply. Overall exposure is considered and only limited to 2 Discover product combinations at this time. What they can offer is a 'carve out' of your existing line to create a new account, but this is YEMV territory. However, that route may be moot if growth on either card hinges on income and other factors.
I'm not sure what my living situation has to do with anything... But since everyone seems concerned... I have a wife, and a boyfriend... My wife still has not relocated and still lives in Ohio... Having to maintain two households is expensive, so here in Oklahoma, I have 2 roommates living with me...
That's silly that an AU counts toward your two card limit...
That sounds like something I do not wish to partake in (being AU on anyone's Discover) if it will exclude me from obtaining my own second one... Cause I would like to have 1 for Daily Driver and 1 for BT Usage... 🤷
@Charmante - thanks for the clarification. Now that the kitty's out of the bag, we can move on
I'm not sure I have seen any DPs where being AU on someone else's Discover account may prevent anyone from getting a second card, though.
@joltdude, do you know of any DPs or links where this was confirmed? My understanding was that AU accounts were separate from the primary cardholder count. I could be wrong, but maybe someone else can provide DPs.
