I have 3 inquiries on equifax, 1 on transunion, and 2 on experian.
I have never missed any payments and have no derogs of any sort.
Annual income is approximately 25,000.
My equifax FICO from this site is a 730. Didnt pull my transunion.
On the Amex pre-select website, it said i was pre-selected for the Gold Preferred, Green, and Zync charge cards. Too bad I dont want any of those!!
What are my chances on blue sky?? I know my credit history is fairly short, and I can't decide if i should wait to get a blue sky pre-selected offer for the 21,500 bonus miles (300$ value), or just go ahead and apply. I know Amex is kind of picky. Anyone know what kind of history, score, etc. one needs to get the blue sky pre-select offer?? Thanks in advance for everyones input. You guys are great!!
in my opinion, you should call AMEX, and ask what are the chances for you in getting the specific amex blue skymiles. tell them about your credit report, scores, and the reason why you want this specific card. If you were prequalified for those other cards. i don't see why not you shouldn't be able to get the Amex Blue. good luck!
My situation is very similar to yours: thin file, no baddies but mine is worse with a much lower total CL.
I applied AMEX Blue back in March and was instantly denied, was preapproved for Gold but I didn't apply it at that time -- that's might because of a baddy on EX.
In May that baddy is gone so I apply AMEX again, my preapproval list is exactly the same as March, i.e., only charge cards, no credit cards. 3 inq on EX, including one from AMEX in March. Anyway, I started with Gold, thought that I can play nice with AMEX then get a real credit card later. That was an instant approval. Then I tried Clear, its unlisted on my preapproval list but since its only one hard pull when applying on the same day, why not? And, also instantly approved with 2K CL.
So I think your chance of getting your AMEX is high. I go for Clear mainly because it has a higher APR -- so I thought it might be easier to get, maybe I'm wrong. Or you can try to get the Delta Skymile then product change to blue sky.
btw, I was turned down by Discover few minutes later
American Express likes to start people with their charge cards. Pick one from the offers and then product change in a year or two.
where did u get the offer for the 21,500 bonus miles??
Agreed my first AMEX out of college was the Green Card....Now have 4 others
You have to get your foot in the door with American Express. I got American Express Blue Cash at age 19 with only one card reporting. But I was an authorized user of my mother's regular American Express Blue for one year.
interesting.. ive heard somewhere that amex usually likes to see at least 2 years of history also. That would rule me out. I would prefer NOT starting out with a charge card. I wonder why their credit cards are harder to get than the charge cards? I cant justify paying those hefty charge card AF's for a rewards system i dont find worth it.

Charge cards have to be paid in full every month.
