Usually paying rent with a rewards credit card, other than in cases of meeting a signup bonus, is a losing proposition due to the "convenience fee" that is imposed.
I was wondering if there are any cards on which you can get bonus points -- sufficient in value to overcome the convenience fee -- for paying rent.
These would be cards which (a) have rent as a bonus category, (b) give you the option of selecting rent as a bonus category, or (c) provide rewards greater than 3% on everything.

How much is the actual convenience fee? My experience was not 3% recently.
I take the view that the Chase Freedom Unlimited gets enough points, which can be transferred through CSP or CSR (even used for booking with CSR on the travel portal) that the points have nearly equal value as the rent fee.
So the approach I took was I was buying points at nearly equal value, in effect pre-paying travel, which generally requires a lot of points.
Uber might be the best card....depends on how it's coded. My landlord owns a local hotel & he takes my Uber for rent. He charges 3% & I get the 3% back...works out if I'm tight on cash.
I've also used my EDP...get an extra 50% points on it as long as I'm over 30 transactions a billing period.

My guess is that is very much an exception, for most people rent will not be coded as travel. I also doubt that there are cards with significant rewards for rent. If they existed, it would likely be capped (to the more usual 1500-2000 per quarter)
Outside of cards with a rent bonus category (I'm not aware of any) the best rent cards are going to be the same or similar to the best tax payment cards.
Note various caps apply.
- Anything with 3%+ for a year (Discover, CFU, Alliant)
- BofA Premium with Platinum Honors (I understand 2.625% may not be enough)
- BBP (especially with Schwab Platinum)
- Lots of travel cards, but they are not cash back
- Marukai (this card comes with complications and seems less popular lately)

Sounds like it works well. You get extra time to pay. You also come out very slightly ahead on rewards, as you earn rewards on the fee he charges.

Just FYI... all JCB Marukai cards were shut down April of last year.
