Re: Any success with cold app'ing with Amex?

About 1.5 years ago my first card was cold app.
$5k SL.

And you can actually have two cards applied for with the first initial HP. One card must be a revolver, while the other being a charge card (green, gold, platinum). You cannot do two of each type. In fact, you must wait between applications, approved or not. Think it is 7 days?

Re: Any success with cold app'ing with Amex?

@Rebuilt, actually at first you can. My first two were Delta Gold and Hilton Honors, approved 90 minutes or less apart, both cold-app on the same HP. Others here have done this as well.

After that, my next three were SP off of preapprovals. I got Ascend 4-1/2 months after DG and HH, then BCP just under 3 months later, and finally Gold 4 days after BCP.

Weird. Not supposed to be that way. o.O At least a lot of reference reading says so.

Looks like charge cards skirt the limits/rules after all. Just be careful with multiple revolver apps, it looks like.

Edit: of course, once you get 1 card and are in, I suppose you could try going trigger happy on revolvers and hope for the best with SPs and approvals...though you could annoy an underwriter and they choose to do a HP. As always, ymmv.

Re: Any success with cold app'ing with Amex?

I wouldn’t suggest more than one revolver at a time after you’re in. I got two at the beginning and likely could’ve done one of each later, but I don’t think further attempts at two revolvers would have worked. And honestly, besides all the usual reasons not to multi-app, it’s not as easy to hit two SUB spends simultaneously, which is something that I think gets overlooked when people go on app sprees. One at a time, get your SUB, then start thinking of another a little later. You only have to focus spend on one card at a time, your reports can rest a bit, and you can recover from the new accounts.

So basically I can get 2 charge cards and 1 revolver in the same day if i wanted?

No, you can get two charge or one of each (or two revolvers at first like I did), but Amex has a 2/90 rule - no more than two cards in any 90 day timeframe.

I just checked the websites in the comment above,  the 2/90 rule is for revolvers and doesn't apply to charge cards unless I'm misreading the articles.
