Any thoughts on the Amex Prepaid?

Any of you guys (or gals) think Amex's prepaid card will help build a relationship with them? I'm not much into prepaid cards, but would like to one day obtain an American Express card (preferably the Hilton HHonors) as I to use their hotels a lot.

Re: Any thoughts on the Amex Prepaid?

This is pure speculation, but I doubt it.  I would imagine that it might put you on their radar in the sense that you'd get added to some lists to receive promotional materials, but I wouldn't think it would have much of an effect on a credit application.  A prepaid card doesn't demonstrate responsible use of credit.

Re: Any thoughts on the Amex Prepaid?

And I'm not sure if a prepaid card is that much different than a gift card (assuming you can charge the balance on a gift card when it gets low and in that case reuse it.)

Yeah, I kind of figured as much. I was checking to see if there might be any benefit for this card. I'm looking for any little "in" with Amex. My credit scores are not quite high enough (EQ FICO-698,, TU FICO 708).

If you can cough up 10 Grand, you can probably get their secured card. I kinda chuckled when they counter offered it. I was thinking, if I had 10 grand lying about, why would I need the AMEX card Smiley Happy

AMEX has a secured card? I only want the Hilton HHonors card because I can do pretty good with the rewards (average 12-15 times a year using Hilton Gardens). I don't want to pay them for the card!

Its not something you can app for. They usually offer it after a decline to *some* people. Its for a charge product (gold or plat), the 10k is put into a CD and refunded after 12 months.

That's not necessarily too low.  Lots of factors can be at play, but I was approved in October for the PR Gold card, and I think my scores at the time were worse than that.  I might be misremembering, I'd have to search through my old posts to confirm, but I think my EQ FICO at the time was 689.
