I would put it this way: borderline unethical.
The CRA's could always change how they intake and report inquiries soft or hard at any time they wish and i'll abide by their game with no issue.
Until they do however, I'll continue to play in the sandbox that they've provided me and use it to my advantage.

Yes, as I said earlier about the original topic, we really don't need to discuss ethical or not. The owners have simply said "don't discuss such things" andin this case it makes perfect sense, as these techniques impact the value of their product to their customers. So to me, it is a financial/business decision, and NOTHING to do with ethics.
