Not sure if this is even possible, but I'm sure someone has tried this. I would assume that the results here would be very lender-specific, so while my question is open to all lenders the one I'm considering in this case is Citi for what it's worth.
When making the decision to take a HP for a CLI, has anyone ever called the lender and asked if they could HP a certain bureau? If so, has anyone had success with such a request, or was your request met with a simple "no?"
You are trying to keep that 850 you just got on 1 CRA aren't you BBS...I see your game!!!

From what I've read on here (plus other sources), it depends. But, I guess the question begs, why would one suggest a lender to pull a specific agency when such decisions are typically factored automatically (in most cases) with an assigned CR?
I can see this being on a case-by-case basis if the lender wasn't able to access a CR that they'd normally retrieve (aside from a freeze but rather a split file, for instance).
Or, from an identity theft or fraud perspective, where the CR in question may be compromised or under investigation.
Is this to improve your CLI chances down the road in the event that a SP CLI doesn't yield fruitful results?
Finstar...BBS recently posted that one credit beaureau he had reached a perfect 850 fico 08, I suspect he does not want an inquiry to show at that CRA to knock off his 850 score...just guessing.

You are on the right track, Sarge, but actually the opposite. I know that taking a HP on the bureau (TU) where I have the 850 will allow me to remain at 850, where with the other 2 bureaus where I'm trying to get to 850 it would inhibit my chances longer ![]()
@AnonymousI wonder if requesting a lender only pull from a certain bureau may raise a red flag. They may question "what's this person trying to hide anyway....surely not an 850 score".
I don't think it would hurt to try though.
What's important to understand is that a lender can pull all bureaus if they want, it's just the one that they choose to HP that I'm wondering about. I'd have no problem with taking SPs on EX and EQ, I'd just prefer they place the HP on TU. Nothing to hide on my part, just trying to be strategic!

I have done it, and the bank I did it with was Citi.
I have the Double Cash card, was approved with a 2k starting limit, and over a 2 year period was locked in at 2k, all 'luv button' requests being denied.
When, after 2 years, I was finally offered the opportunity for soft pull CLI requests, they continued to turn me down based on a 4 or 5 month old report which carried a much lower score than the score I had at the time.
I finally decided I was going to try to get them to do a hard pull, and if they didn't grant me a CLI I was going to close the card.
I applied by phone so there would be no misunderstanding. I told the rep that I was specifically requesting a hard pull so they would have my current information, not my stale information from the soft pull. He said it could be done, he did the hard pull, and my CL was raised from 2k to 10k.
BTW BBS, shouldn't this be under "credit cards"?

I'm not really sure if it should be under the credit cards section, but if the mods feel it would be better suited there by all means they can move it.
I may be missing something, SJ, but I don't see in your reply you mentioning requesting a specific bureau to take the HP on from your Citi request. That's specifically what I'm looking for here, as I know plenty of people have received HP CLIs from many lenders, Citi included. I took a HP CLI from Citi last fall and they gave me the HP on EQ... which seems somewhat counterproductive in that you know they're already pulling EQ every single month for account maintenance and your monthly score update.

I'm honestly just looking to raise my limit significantly and I'm not sure that can be done with just a regular old SP CLI. Even the HP CLI I allowed them to take last fall didn't increase my account much, but my account was only 6 months old at the time, so I get it. Now that my account is > 1 year old, I think my increase potential from both a SP or HP CLI request would be greater. I was going to go with the SP CLI and see what I get and was considering giving up a HP for more in the event that I'm not satisfied, but I'd really only like my profile to be hit with a HP on TU. If they're going to HP either EX or EQ, I'd just rather not bother and I'll wait another 6 months for another SP CLI chance.
