God forbid you forgot your wallet and only had your amex. you'd be in the back washing dishes
Heh, I get to start my own mini-adventure on that one LS. Recently I'd carry around whatever CC I was running my life through, and a $20 bill, and simply see how long I could go without spending the $20 (three months down with the same $20). Now I have the goofy pre-paid as of yesterday, that gets offered first, and then the CC if not accepted.
Since my spending habits are pretty fixed for the next few months, may just wind up using it for groceries and bills if the outsourced cafeteria where I work doesn't accept it, and maybe prioritize those restaurants that do accept it.

If you live in an urban or metro area I don't think you'll have any trouble finding places that take AMEX. The only two places I've run into so far that haven't accepted AMEX are Sam's Club (not a member and it's a long story) and my community college/community college bookstore.

This is true...in that case I'm screwed.
Not annoying at all. I just take it out and if they don't accept it I just use another one. What is annoying is when places accept it but prefer that you use something else. Unless I am mistaken, they are still paying every year and possibly every month to be able to accept American Express. So it seems silly to not want anyone to use it, then they are paying for something for no reason. I just wish all cards were accepted everywhere.
The looking doesnt annoy me. What annoys me is cashiers dont know what the security pin is. At the gas station today this woman wouldnt listen to me when I gave it to her, even though the card was in her hand, and instead got the manager. 5min standing around for a bottle of tea. You would think she has seen an Amex in her life. :/
What annoys me is that I don't have an AMEX card to whip out and offer. LOL!!
I don't have much trouble with my AMEX; most places take it. There's this one small, local BBQ place right down the road that I frequent and they don't take it...and a few of the places on campus don't take it, but other than that I really don't have any issues. As others have said, when in doubt I simply ask if they take American Express. If not, I whip out the Visa. Boom.

+1
I want to try the Amex/$20 thing for a while.
