Anyone had problems using chip and PIN cards in the US?

I have the Diners Club card and have occasionally been putting charges on it to keep it active and test chip readiness of businesses that I visit day to day. So far I've had it rejected twice at chip enabled businesses (latest being yesterday) because it asked for a PIN. Chip and signature cards are accepted with no issue at these same places.

Just curious if anyone else with a PIN preferring card have had similar issues. For reference the current list of PIN preferring cards are:

Diners Club

Navy Federal

UNFCU

USAA (older cards)

I had no problems using my Diners Club card at WalMart recently.  Also, add the Wells Fargo Propel cards (World and 365) to your Chip & PIN list.  Have also used the WF card, again with no problems.

I'm mostly talking about the cards that will always ask for a PIN at places like Walmart. Unless the WF cards do now too?

Yes.  Regarding WalMart, it could be a difference in stores.  I've read here and elsewhere that the card reader has been disabled in some stores.  Not so in my local stores.

Never any issues with my non US chip and pin cards but I have to admit that I had to always swipe as I have only found once a terminal that actually processed a chip & pin transaction in the US.

I've found that even with chip cards that have a PIN, I still have to sign in the US. The only card that's consistently always asked for a PIN for me was Diners Club.

I've used my Diners quite a bit and some places I sign for and some places I use PIN, although they are caught off guard and ask me if it's a debit.

Re: Anyone had problems using chip and PIN cards in the US?

Surprisingly I had this issue at a McDonald's. I don't even know what my pin number is so I had to use a different card. I have only had to insert the card at Walmart and surprisingly a small local pizza place.

Re: Anyone had problems using chip and PIN cards in the US?

I had the same problem recently both at Sams club and walmart.  Called customer service, tried changing my pin via ATM- they had me go to 5 different Atms with no success.

Long story short, they sent me a pin reminder.  Tried using it Saturday night and it said, last pin attempt... said invalid pin, even though I had the letter in hand...then it locked the chip

Called up customer service and they cancelled the current card and issued another.  Supposedly were expediting it and are waiving my annual fee for all the hassle.  The new card number is showing up on line, just waiting for the arrival of the new card.. Hopefully this one doesn't have any issues.

I never could get the PIN portion to work with it.
