I currently have 4 and thinkning about adding the delta which would make 5, but was wondering if this is even possible?
I tried to get a sixth revolver but was turned down. I'm sure if I would have called to pled my case, I could have gotten it maybe... or they would have made me close one to open another. Amex did call leave maybe about 4 voicemeails but I didn't care enough to call back. A week or so later I received the 'too many revolvers' notice in the mail.
You apparently can get as many as Amex wants you to have... 4 and 5 seems to be the general max for most normal amex cardholders though.
Komp, how long ago was that? According to the article I read it's a very recent change. I wonder if the calls were to ask you to reallocate some of your credit lines to open the card?
Yeah, 4 here as well. I'm done now I think. Also have Plat. and PRG.

Just curious, why would someone want so many revolvers and especially so much exposure with one lender? Please dont shoot the questioner lol, just wondering what 1 or 2 couldnt do that 4,5, or 6 could?
For most people, a few Amex revolvers (or even 1) is enough. The caps applied to all cards personal and business, though. Not unforeseeable that someone running a business may have a Blue Business Plus, Starwood, and Delta card for their business spending, and then have a Starwood and Delta card on the personal side, and decide that the Blue Cash Preferred may give them some cash back on their household purchases.
I mean... if I was going for the ultimate Amex kit, I might go for a ED(P), BC(E/P), Delta, SPG, and I guess Hilton. That's five.
Any more than that and you're doubling up.

This isn't an Amex-related answer, but your question also didn't specify Amex. For optimum spend, I can see 4 Chase cards being ideal (maybe more and I just can't recall): CSR for travel/dining, Freedom for the 5% category, Ink Business Preferred for service bills like internet and phone, and CFU for all other things.
It could have possibily been to re-allocate to the new card as it wasn't a straight denial. This was only about two weeks ago when I applied for the no-AF Hilton card.
