@Anonymous wrote:Yeah, my Freedom has seen an extremely low amount of use lately since Q4 of Freedom sucks, but I am definitely keeping the card. Q1 and Q2 were great this year! Sure, the Freedom may have an off quarter, but as long as it doesn't turn into a Dividend, I'm satisfied. Plus, my Freedom limit is quite nice and I would never willingly give it up.
Diapers.com sure sounds like a Dividend type of category.
Yeah, that was a hilariously awful choice. Amazon, however, is a great choice. Unfortunately, it is eclipsed by my Discover's double cashback right now. But for people who don't have a Discover It, 5% back on Amazon is good.
I find "value" in cards that #1 pay me a cash bonus to use them as an intro promo and #2 offer 0% for 12-15-18 months on a balance as an intro promo. Almost always I've got one or two cards that are active in the "bonus on spend" option and two or three cards on the extended 0% balance option.
I don't really care to chase monthly or quarterly bonus catagories - not that I don't like cash back, I just have no interest in making it a profession. That said, Chase Freedom paid me $200 to use it on intro and 15 months of 0% balance financing, that was 8 months ago, so for the next 7 months IF I'm going to carry a balance (which I usually don't but I might), I'll think of my Freedom card. After the "promos" are gone, I doubt it'll get much usage as long as I have other cards giving me 0% or lower APR's.
In the future I expect to continue to open new accounts that offer a cash bonus and free financing, I also expect to close those cards that don't grow, have high APR's or can't compete with the new offers I get. Lenders play the game as "it's not personal, it's just business" that's the same game I play, I'll take what you'll give me and say thank you, but it's just business and if you can't compete...... see ya.

@Anonymous wrote:I'm kinda with you, I personally don't care for any of their cards myself. CSP seems to be overrated. I think what draws most people is using the 5% cash on categories (Freedom) and combining with their UR points from CSP for redeeming travel.
Right but the whole "earn points on freedom and transfer to CSP" meme is totally overhyped to me. The bottom line is, if the categories are useless, it doesn't matter if you earn 10k URs on them per dollar if they are worthless. For example, Q4 includes such gems as diapers.com and audible.com. I am sure some people use those websites but for most people they are not going to be useful and are a total joke for categories, especially in Q4 when consumer spending is highest and you'd think they'd want to put out better categories.
Freedom is an overrated product, IMO and Discover trumps it in every way. Yes, there's the CSP angle but again, meaningless if the ways to earn the points are not favorable or easy.
As for their other products they really don't even have any! They have Slate and then the rest are cobranded cards with specific rewards, none of which I find especially appealing myself but to each their own. Some people have 12 Chase cards. I just struggle to understand which 12 cards of theirs one would find appealing, want to pay fee(s) for, etc. But hey, we're all individuals.
Your bias against Chase is clear. That doesn't mean you are right. Discover does not trump Freedom in every way. You don't travel so you don't find Chase cards useful. That's great but your constant downplaying of their card lineup is absurd. They are one of the most popular card companies because they offer a wide variety of reward cards for those who fly and stay in hotels. That applies to a lot of people. You have to stop trying to belittle in your own way those that find Chase cards appealing. You border on insulting when you repeatedly do this. Just because a card doesn't fit KDM's lifestyle doesn't make it a joke, a meme, worthless or otherwise a bad card. I personally find several of your cards worthless and would never carry. Does that mean they are horrible cards? Absolutely not. They fit your lifestyle and spending habits. Stop trying so hard to find fault with the choices of other people.
Its just my opinion. On a cash back basis, im pretty sure nobody argues that freedom beats discover. On the other hand, paired with csp and used for travel, the freedom can be better than discover. I just find that the pairing thing is overstated at times.
Just depends on priorities, wants, needs, spend, etc.
Im not biased against chase. Their products don't interest me and I find them overrated, and thats all im saying. The intent of the thread seemed to be discussing opinions on freedom. Im not insulting anyone who finds them useful. These arent one's family members or something, merely credit cards. Have a good night all. Sorry if anyone was offended.
Using it as my daily driver only because I have 11 months remaining of my 0% interest free period. 5% this category sucks.

ok
It's a joke, dude. When I posted this thread, I wondered "How long before this turns into a discussion of frequent flyer programs or something"...and that's exactly what happened. I just find it hilarious. That might be the vodka tonic talking too, hehehe.
Given your blanket statement about Chase cards being way overrated, and the fact Chase has a ton of cobranded travel cards, it really was inevitable.
