I'm loving this thread very valuable info contained from everyone.
Bravo to all that contributed and to all I say plan what cards you want and how you will benefit from them.
I'll add the most important part anyone can do to increase their chances of approval and success.

Absolutely! It only takes a few minutes and if you can't wait then you are probably in the wrong mindset to be apping anyways

Yup! I think that most issuers have AA guidelines, so that if one issuer CLDs ya, the other might just bc of meeting the same guidelines.
For example,
After my 3xcli back in June to $24,500 on BCE reported. Within DAYS -Citi Diamond preferred closed me and Barclay's reduced my cl from $7700 to $2750.
BOTH said I had "too much open credit" LOL
My total cls at that point had surpassed $170k.
I called Barclay's; they raised my limitback up to $7700 with no hassle. Citi wouldn't budge though.
I think banks now have automated their computers to protect them from financial armageddon as a result of the past Financial Crisis.
AA should be a concern though. You don't want to lose a beautiful card for going on anapp spree of store cards.
Make good choices!!:-) lol
That is one of the best points I have read yet. Why risk a prime lender with a decent CL for a store card with a $1,000 limit? I honestly think that I will never have more cards than I have right now. I am becoming more and more upset with Citi and my Slate really isnt doing anything for me.
I made the mistake of apping for the Slate just in case I needed it instead of when I do actually need it. So now I am stuck with a BT card that I am not using. That was before I had gained all the knowledge from this forum though. I can see myself replacing Citi and Slate with Discover and Amex SPG at some point next year.

I am glad you said that azguy. I was wanting Slate but then realized, at the mercy of lexi and enharu, that I didn't even need it! Lol
I almost certainly will need it a year from now to facilitate further debt reduction.
Yeah, Citi is the only permanent creditor ony s*** list.
Perhaps though having the Slate already will get you some of those elusive balance transfer checks with 12 months 0% and a 1% fee Ive read so much about!
The only reason I got it was because I was planning on spending a lot more than I did on my trip to Ireland. Since I did not spend nearly as much as I thought I would, I just used my other cards and did not need to use the slate. I have absolutely no CC debt at the moment. I paid almost $20K of it this year and will never put myself in that position ever again.
I honestly think it was just me wanting another card and I really like Chase. I will close it or try and PC it to another card in the future. I am not sure how Chase treats their PCs. I think I have to wait a minimum of a year.

This has been a very influential and informative thread for me. I'm about 2 months away from 12 months no apps, and have been planning a December app spree, just for the sake of getting some of the cards I'm seeing others get 😏. After reading through here I've decided I have enough cards for my current needs, and now plan on holding out until dec 2014 to maybe add another card with 2 years of no apps....well except a walmart card for the free TU score and I shop there all the time.
You can always ask for a CLI on the cards you use a lot. That way, those cards won't always seem like they're on the verge of getting maxed out.
Not a fan of app sprees at all. But that is my personality and personal choice. I research extensively the card I think I want, check out all the promos, think if I will still have the card in 5,10, 20 years, do I really need the card and so on. I am very meticulous with what I apply for because I only want 5-6 cards for life (minus my Macys and Walmart). Great post though about people getting all amped because of the forums and holidays and making brash decisions.
