Re: App Spree a good idea at this point?

The Cash Magnet is not very useful if you already have the Freedom Unlimited, and the Amex Green is not very useful if you have the CSP. If you want to maximize rewards, try to fill out your 5/24 with other Chase cards before you move on.

And also, unless you're paying 0% interest on that 19% utilization, I'd pay those off before apping for new cards.

I think you are right, shouldn't go for these but I would like to enter the door with some nice card with Amex as I dont have any. How about a co branded card by Chase?

Re: App Spree a good idea at this point?

No one is saying don’t apply at all, but you should think about your objectives.

Back to the question about what you owe on each card, the reason I ask is one card option is the Slate. If you move debt from a Citi card to lower interest on Slate, that can help you reduce debt. Later the Slate can be PC’d to a Freedom, giving you a good rewards addition to the CSP and Unlimited.

If you have all the owed amounts on the Chase cards, that significantly changes how you should proceed next. Any UR points you earn on these cards, if carrying interest cost, wipes out the points value due to too much interest cost.

The number of UR points you have is good to know for strategizing where to look for rewards.

Does making balance transfer effects my score?

Re: App Spree a good idea at this point?

The balance transfer leads to a change in the balances on specific cards, so yes it can affect score. Often bringing a debt to a low APR or zero APR card raises the utilization

The big advantage to a BT is that it lowers your interest cost, making it possible to pay down the debt slightly faster. As utilization declines score improves.

Re: App Spree a good idea at this point?

If you’re looking to BT, the Slate is indeed a good option. If you can tell us what your goals are, we will be able to give better recommendations. In short:

For rewards—get more UR cards, like the freedom or Ink cards.

For BT—Citi double cash, Citi diamond preferred, or chase slate.

For Amex—see if you qualify for the ED, they had a BT offer along with a welcome bonus. The main perk of getting in with Amex are either their partners (delta+Hilton) or MR. So it’s probably best to shoot for those cards instead of a cash magnet or green card which are effectively redundant given which cards you already have.

Slate is indeed a good option. Once you're done paying your balance off, you can transfer all or part of the Slate credit line to Freedom Unlimited or Sapphire Preferred. Win/Win!

Re: App Spree a good idea at this point?

You could also just PC to a freedom as well to add to your UR arsenal.

Re: App Spree a good idea at this point?

Sure, I don't want to go for cash magnet or green card because I already have csp and freedom Unlimited...😶 nor I am looking for any bt...I think I can pay off my citi cards by the end of next month to reduce my utilization...I spoke to chase rep once to get ink card but they were asking me if I have any business to get that one (not sure of requirements for ink)...shall I try finding out pre qualify offers by Amex thru the phone call? Please advise

Thank you so much guys 😊

Re: App Spree a good idea at this point?

Thanks but I don't want to take a risk on my credit score with the balance transfer...the amount is not that big and I think I can pay them off by next month hopefully! 😀
