App spree!!

Hi, All!

I have to buy furniture, but I DID NOT want to open a furniture store account and pay 28% interest on what will probably be coded as a finance account. So, I decided to app for additional cards since my scores are a lot better than they were a year ago AND my BK will fall off Feb., 2011!! YAY!!! I did this to help util. Here are my results:

Kay Jewelers----- approved $2K

CU VISA CLI------approved $1K ( this is the one that I will put the furniture since it already is carrying a balance)

Kohl's------approved $300

Apple Barclay's iTunes card------approved $1K

Paypal MC-------approved $1K (really surprised that I rec'd this one! I was denied a year ago!)

Sony Cap1 MC-----approved $500

Citi Forward------denied (too many inq. Should have app'd for this one first!!! LOL)

Ann Taylor LOFT--------approved $250 (was denied this card a year ago; I shop here a lot!)

Bed Bath and Beyond VISA------denied (high util)

Care Credit----denied (no reason given)

JC Penney--------approved (after verifying info) $200; app'd online, csr said that I could possibly get this increases by going in the store

Victoria's Secret ------7-10 day message

I know this is a lot, but I feel great that I received more approvals than denials. It's been a long time!!!! And this will definite help with util once the new charges post. Time to garden and pay down the furniture charges.

This was not the case. CSR's were clueless when I went in. They had no idea what I was talking about. CSR in store called 800 number, and they were even more clueless. I was waiting 20 minutes for them to locate my account number in the system!!! Then another 20 to 30 minutes (after I was transferred another 4 times!!!) for them to tell me that I can't get an increase right now. I was VERY upset yesterday, and sorry that I had app'd for this card. Will probably use it once or twice a year, PIF and place in sock drawer!!!

Re: App spree!!

Congrats! But be careful some bad things can happen from getting a ton of new accounts at once. You could face some AA from the new accounts. I think barclays is terrified of app sprees.

Re: App spree!!

I am soooo glad that I was/am not the ONLY one who kinda went on an app spree recently! I too have received some denials but for the most part I got MORE approvals. I went a really long time with out even trying to apply for fear of being denied BUT if you don't try you don't take a chance at having. Thanks to the wonderful ppl on here who are so full of credit knoweledge that I broke out of that shell and am looking at building my credit in a positive way!! I took care of 3 baddies and got goodies now so I am officially NEGATIVE FREE---WOOOHOOO sorry I'm a little proud of myself Smiley Surprised and the accomplishements I have achieved! Congrats to you and much credit success to ya!!!

LOL!!! No I think that I am done...for quite a while. These new accounts will serve a purpose. Most will be sock-drawered and used every few months for a cup of coffee or a tank of gas, then PIF. I know better now. I know what to do with credit when I get it: make it work for me, and the other way around!! :-)

@Anonymous, I guess we will see. I had to call Barclays to verify info before approval. (I also have a B&N MC @ $1K; just increased. was $500) The csr told me that he could see that I was careful with my credit and that I was able to handle my credit accounts after my BK, so I am going to approve you for $1K! Hopefully they won't AA me. But again we will see. Last app spree was when rec'd my B&N MC from them. Hmmm.....

Doesn't it feel GREAT?!!!!! As I said b4, it's been a long time. And in time, we will get approval everyt ime!!!! We just need to be careful and take care of what we have accomplished and use what we have learned here on the forums. Can't wait for the BK to fall off!! I am hoping for 700s across the board!!!!

Congrats to you on your approvals as well!

Re: App spree!!

These are eight new accounts. Hopefully, it will work out for you. I think applying for so many cards is a bit foolish, though. I can see that you want to get "done" but you also got many minimal CL cards out of the deal (except maybe that $1000 card). If these limits are good for you, then fine.

You might have a good array of store cards, but it'll be more difficult to grow these limits unless you use each one on a monthly basis and hope for an increase over time. Honestly, that would be way too many cards for me to handle.I'd rather be approved for a regular VISA/MC with a nice limit than a bunch of small cards. Also, I am kind of skeptical of store cards that are very limited in their use. But that's just me. A lot of people like them.

And I thought that I had been a bad boy, adding three accounts to my portfolio in two months. Smiley Wink

This is a bit harsh, don't you think? I would not apply for a store card that I didn't use. I was approved for, I think 3 or 4 store cards. I will use these cards, so I know that they will grow. Yes, I do like them, and will use them wisely as I have learned a great deal here. The store cards that chose have really good rewards, coupons, etc. So the benefit will be two-fold.

Also, I received 2 cards with $1000 CL, one with a $2000 CL and an increase of $1000 on an existing cc. So, you should look carefully before you criticize. This forum is to offer help, not to insult. My scores were below 500 when I started on myFICO. I couldn't buy a cc account back then. I am pleased that I can now apply for a cc, and most of the time get an approval, even if the CL is low to start. You are not going to make me feel badly. I am still happy with ALL of my new accounts. Just because you would have done it differently, doesn't make it wrong....
