While there have been posts declaring one card the only obvious choice for any right-thinking person (and of course both cards have been the chosen one) as others have said it really depends on your spending, and to a lesser extent, which other cards you have.

For example, the Apple card gives a minimum of 2% everywhere when you use Apple Pay.  For many of us now, a 2% flat rate card is pretty standard, so that really isn't much of a selling point.   The 3% merchants might or might not be, depending a) if you shop there, and b) whether you have a 3+% card already for such purchases.

As someone who spends a lot on Amazon and Whole Foods, and nothing on Apple, the answer is somewhat clear.   But to my mind, the question is roughly the same as asking "World of Hyatt credit card or Target Redcard MC?????"     I think there the "It depends where you spend" answer would be more common!

^^^ This

It depends where you spend

Maybe also where you live.  I live in a rural area where there's about a 50-50 chance of Apple Pay being accepted anywhere you go.

You have a good point @cjesser15 .

Not just the places where apple pay is not accepted but the population that do not own an apple phone or want one.

@Kforce  You bring up an issue that never occurred to me. You must have an Apple device in order to use Apple Pay. Granted you can still obtain the Apple Card and use the actual card instead of Apple Pay, but then you would only earn 1% instead of 2% cashback. Brilliant or exclusionary? I suppose history will be the judge.

Re: Apple vs Amazon Chase

Then there is the 5/12 rule which many are not able to even obtain a chase card and Apple seems to be more forgiving to be approved. Sometimes It's a 6 in one hand half dozen in the other, what I think is beauty someone else might think is ugly kinda ordeal also.

You mean 5/24 rule with Chase?

Uh... clearly exclusionary, yeah, which is a bummer. But they also give decent CLIs to sub-prime (and sometimes sub...sub-prime) clients with accurate soft pulls. Also 2% cashback with no FTF is a solid thing to have internationally, often it's easier to find Apple Pay than people who accept Discover or AMEX if you are outside the US/west Europe/a few other places. Also it grows well, and there's the financing with 3% cashback which may appeal to people who finance things.

The only thing I hate is it is a nice looking card I will never use physically, RIP

Rebuilding: FICO - EX: 746 / TU: 756 / EQ: 753

Capital One Platinum Secured (RIP) $500 - Petal $1600 - Discover IT $10000 - Apple Card $7500 - Venmo Card $3200 - Amex BCE $9000

Never PiF on a 0% APR, always PiF otherwise - 8.5+ years since last BK

General reaction to X brand card IRL:

AMEX revolver = oh cool I think my mom has that | AMEX charge = oh nice I think my dad has that | Chase anything other than freedom flex = I thought you had to be like rich for that | Discover = oh cool I got mine when I was a freshman | all the random no-AF fin-techs that would offer me credit for weird reasons without fees when I had a FICO of like 370 that gave me limits of like $287 or something: WHOA that’s got such a nice design, how did you get that?

Re: Apple vs Amazon Chase

I have both cards and currently get significantly more value with the Chase Amazon card. The 5% uncapped at Amazon is an excellent deal. The Apple Card is great for starting out. In fact, it is my first credit card. Back before I found these forums, I tried applying for the Chase Amazon after having the Apple Card for three months and received the fastest instant denial. This is when I learned that Chase doesn't play nice with beginners. However, with a more established history, Chase is the better card of the two in my opinion.
