Applied for US Bank Cash+, was approved for Cash Rewards - How to work this?

The final card in my app spree was me calling in to apply for the US Bank Cash+ card over the phone. They took my application and I called back a couple days later and they informed me that I wasn't approved for it but they approved me for the Cash Rewards card instead. I knew this was likely going in, I know this happens, so this isn't a case where I'm pissed or anything.

Anyway, they sent me the Cash Rewards card with just a $1,500 CL and now I'm not sure what to do.

I obviously still want the Cash+ card. Should I put a couple things, say Netflix and Hulu, on autopay on the Cash Rewards card and have it be automaticly paid off each month? Will that help me chances of getting a CLI and eventually a conversion to the Cash+? What else could I do to make this happen?

How should I work this one guys?

Do you have an income of 30K or more? Do you have 5 or more credit cards?

if so, yes just keep the card and use it until your credit improves enough to warrant $5000 credit limits.

Yes and yes. My score, as of a statement a few days ago, was 733 (I forget which).

Does it matter if I only use it for $10 or $20 a month or does it only matter that there is at least some sort of activity on the card? I'm certainly not using a 1% rewards card for much of anything else since I have the Discover It, Chase Freedom, Blue Cash Everyday, Quicksilver, and even a Fidelity AMEX.

I suspect you should put 15% or so of the limit on it if you want to show you need an increase. Maybe one month a higher amount to set the high usage mark. Can't hurt.

By the way, check your offers on the BCE occasionally. they offered me a $10 when you spend $20 on Hulu.

I wouldn't touch US Bank with a 20 ft pole (and someone else's credit)... antique website(optimized for Mosaic 1.2 for Windows 3.1!), their constant habit of nerfing cc rewards( like they've done on the + card and the kroger 0.5-1.0-1.5 card),  and their absolute lack of business ethics (their moral priciples are a tad bit higher than bernie Madoff, though).

Do business with US Bank and Caveat emptor...

I don't really want to rain on the OP's parade, but I can't agree with otter69 further after previously banking with tem for 11 years.  Long story short, they previously tried to hold me responsible for charges I didn't make.  It got worked out in the end, but it was a long and fought out battle.

That said, if you want to stick it out, I'm not sure it really makes a difference whether your spending goes on their card or others.  I'm inclined to say that they'd probably be more willing to get you at the $5k mark with use on their card overtime.  Just be sure your profile is good when you ask for a CLI, because it'll most likely be a HP.

Congrats OP

Before you app think...
Have you done your research of the CC?
Does it fit your spending?
Do you have a plan for the bonus w/o going into debt?
Can you afford the AF?
Do you know the cards benefits? Is it worth the HP?

They seem to like some profiles better than others. I'm not sure why. Both my Sallie Mae and my Discover started at 10K, which seems a bit higher than average, from what I read. But US Bank started at $4,500, despite the fact that I bank there (or maybe that's why). ;-) I got another $1,000 after 4 months, but I don't know how long a $3,500 boost will take. Good luck to you!
