Hey guys, quick question...I know everyone says to wait six months between apps, but is that just a rule of thumb or is it an actual rule AMEX has? I want to apply for the BCE but I've only had my Zync for 5 months. I'm getting antsy. ![]()
So will AMEX automatically deny me because of not enough history, or is there a chance they would at least consider the application? Like I know Citi will not give you a CLI before six months, and will automatically tell you that you're not eligible. Is AMEX similar to this?
I know some of you will just tell me to wait (but my parents would tell you I'm very hard-headed), but please try and answer the question regardless.
I just talked to a CSR a few days ago, he said they like to have 30 days in between apps.

Oh wow...well, I'm definitely past that point. ![]()
Thanks for responding. I'm thinking about apping on my birthday (March 4th) as a present to myself.
But I don't know how good of a chance I stand, but it's no HP if denied so I figure what the hay.
I think its only if you are denied, Chase has the same thing. I applied and got Amex Green, the next day I applied and got Amex Gold
Well poop...applied and denied. States my EX FICO from January which was 665, when I was carrying a large balance on my Citi card (since been paid off).
Reasons were along the lines of high utilization, too short history, and haven't been a member for long enough.
BUT, I then applied for Chase Freedom...INSTANT APPROVAL! So happy!

Congrats on the Freedom card. Dont worry about the Amex garden for at least 6 months, Amex uses its own scoring system, continue to use your Zync card well and itll count towards decision. Once you are in with Amex and do well they are pretty good to you. I had my bluesky for 4 years and then decided to do a CLI and they increased it by 5x. On the flipside if you burn Amex they will totally burn you back...like most CC i guess

Don't feel too discouraged, thankfully its only a SP. Just keep gardening and get that utilization down before you apply next time (pay everything off a good month or two beforehand to make sure all the reports are up to date).
Having lurked on these boards for awhile, I have hardly ever seen a Blue Cash approval with sub-700 score. You'd be amazed at the score increase after just 6 months of faithful gardening. Most I've seen is 50 points - from 700 to 750. I think in about 6 months you should be in a much better position to get approved for it.
Oh I didn't even see the Freedom approval. Awesome congrats!!
Thanks for the words of encouragement, guys. I knew it was a long shot...the BCE is my ultimate goal in the credit card word at the moment, so I wasn't really expecting to reach it this soon in my credit life.
The main reason I applied was because I knew it would be a SP if I got denied, so I didn't really have much to worry about.
The Chase Freedom was a nice consolation prize! ![]()
