It's a pretty well accepted theory that if a current AMEX cardholder applies for an additional AMEX card and is denied, it only counts as a soft pull. My question is if my wife, who is an AU on both of my AMEX and has her own log in, applies for the ED card, would a denial count as a SP or HP? Does anyone have any experience with this?
The only card she has on her own is a Capital One and I'd like her to expand her credit portfolio and not just be an AU on most of my cards.
Thanks.

AU will get HP if they apply for their own amex no matter approved or denied.

But if the CP1 is over a year old, her scores are good, being an AU on your accounts will help a little (backdating!). IMO its worth the HP to get her first personal amex. Even if they start her with a low limit just hit the luv button on the 61x for her 3x CLI
