Approval with different terms on discover it card?

My mom just applied after me for the discover it with 150$ bonus after 750 purchases in the first 3 months, and while i said on the initial application that it needs to be reviewed we called the same day and the analyst said he won't be able to approve her with the incentive, but with a 3.99 into purchase apr then 19.24 after 6 months, and no incentives, i tried to tell him that the bonus is one of the main reasons we applied but he said that this is the only one he is willing to approve her with.

note she has new credit, joint on my amex and just got approved for chase freedom a week ago.

so them approved her is already a good thing i just wanted to know if this is a standard thing to happend when they take your incentive out in order to approve you?

If the offer says "subject to credit criteria" or something else like this then yes they can kill the original offer and counter with something else.

Re: Approval with different terms on discover it card?

reading the forums here, it seems to happen frequently. (or at least it happens frequently based on the posters here but I don't know how that is with a broader selection of people applying over all)

Re: Approval with different terms on discover it card?

well it certainly doesn't say anything about it https://www.discovercard.com/cardmembersvcs/acqs/app/display?&pageFileId=listingsite&sc=KCV2&iq_id=b...

this is where i applied for mine too, and got approved, and then again maybe the offer is invalid since november and nobody told me and that's why?

that would be odd because when i was approved yesterday she didn't say anything about diffrent terms, but then again i have much better credit than my mom.

it is possible for discover.

some other lenders, notably Citi and US Bank, do similar stuff as well.

If you are not "credit-worthy" enough to be approved for that offer, they can try to get you approved for another offer instead, and sometimes that may be their secured card. If you don't want the other offer, you can always decline that counter-offer and walk away with a denial.

Re: Approval with different terms on discover it card?

They pulled that cruelty on my preapproval mailer too so don't feel alone. It's a sick joke but perfectly legal to "tiny print" include that stipulation. What is so lame about that practice is how they grand marquee in Big Bold Print the full intro promo.

Lousy if you ask me but that's another way that they market or for lack of a better term, peddle their CC products for new business to so-called lesser qualified potential applicants.

I find it odd that of all my new prime lenders who solicited my business last year, Discover is the single only one who took the liberty to not only eliminate any 0% intro term but along with the card came a beautiful all purchase apr at a world renown 22.99.
Way to go Discover. Sleep well in the cold SD.

Re: Approval with different terms on discover it card?

The same thing happened when my wife was approved. It went to the next screen and said we weren't able to approve you for the previous offer, but we can do this offer. Do you want to accept the card? or something like that. So it informed her immediately that she didn't have the special promo and she accepted.

Learning from my past and rebuilding..

Got a similar offer without bonus a few years ago, I emailed them later after spending about $1k asking why I didn't get bonus and I applied for bonus and they gave it to me anyways so can't hurt to ask later if you accepted the offer
