Are AmEx Membership Rewards Points Transferable?

So basically my Mom has a Gold Premiere Rewards card and she has some points which she doesn't use and asked me if i'd like to have them.

Now I don't have the gold card or any card that earns points with AmEx but i'm planning on getting one only if it's possible for her to "gift" or transfer those points over to me.

Any thoughts? Thanks guys!

I believe she can transfer them to you, but only if you're an AU on her PRG.

EDIT: More specifically, she can't transfer them to you -- however, if you're an AU on her card, she can grant you access to redeem the points.

Do you have an idea of what you want to use it for? If you want to use it to transfer to partner airlines or hotels, you can register those accounts to her card and transfer them to the transfer partners (in your name).

Thanks for the response. I'm looking into applying for one myself so I can take advantage of the bonus points they offer after a 3-month spend plus whatever my mom's going to give me. So does that mean that I can apply for one now, and then ask her to make me an AU on her PRG so she can transfer the points?

Thanks so much!

I feel like michael hit it on the head. She can't transfer them directly to you, however, she will more than likely be able to transfer them to your travel partner account. I would simply have her try that before making the decision to get a card of your own, unless, of course you feel you need the card regardless of whether or not you can access her points.

I actually haven't thought about that yet. But i'll be travelling next year and I might use it for travel.

What would be the best route for me? Just be an AU on her account? or get at least the AmEx EveryDay Card which earns MR Points as well? I'd like to avoid getting a new PRG for myself since it has a bit high AF and I don't think it'll be of much use for my needs.

Well i transfered about 25k of them to my Delta Skymiles Card. They did charge me $15 dollars to do it. no problem. iirc. this was about 5 months ago.

Re: Are AmEx Membership Rewards Points Transferable?

She can't transfer membership rewards points into your ownership, but she can transfer them to your loyalty accounts. IE: If you have a BA account, or a delta account, or whatever, she can transfer her points into those accounts that belong to you.

Re: Are AmEx Membership Rewards Points Transferable?

Thanks guys. Thats what i'm gonna do then. I'll probably get the AmEx Delta around January next year. Just to give me 3 months to spend the required bonus spend on two of my new cards. Then i'll transfer the points to my Delta.

Thank you all!!! Smiley Happy

Depending where you live, you may look into what airline has a hub near you. If it is AA or United you may find those Delta points a little less useful.
