Re: Are their different tiers of utilization?

I saw no change going from 9% to 1%.  depending on when things report, I might be at 0 now.

As a side note, anyone ever get "Great" for util.  9% didnt do it, 1% didnt.  No big deal, just was curious.

For me:

1% - 8% = Great
12% - 30% = Very Good

I've never had a report with util greater than 8% and less than 12%, so I don't know where the cutoff is.

I've also never had util greater than 30%, so I don't know how high "Very Good" would go for me, either.

I've had 7 percent show up as both a positive and a negative on the 'fico scale of death'.

This might be a silly question, since lower is naturally better. But I was wondering if there are any utilization percentages at which you see a noticeable score change.

I've often heard that staying under 10% is ideal, so you could argue that 1-9% is the top tier. After that, 10-???

This has been discussed before on other forums on this site. I believe the numbers folks come up with for tiers originally came from a bar graph Fair Isaac published showing how higher utilization resulted in a higher risk of default. People took those numbers as tiers instead of what it was: a convenient breakdown to show risks in a visual format.

Programming wise a curve would be easer and faster to run. It would also be more accurate. People do not behave on tiers, they behave on a curve. Fair Isaac markets accuracy.

Judging from the past few minds will be changed so I'll just leave the above for thought and get back to reading my new book from B&N I bought this afternoon with my new B&N MC  Smiley Very Happy

Re: Are there different tiers of utilization?

It's not that old chart, but anecdotal evidence that leads us to believe in the existence of tiers.

But, yes, we can leave it at that this time around. Smiley Tongue
