Im kinda stuck where I am right now for cards.
PRG is gone for sure come August. QS Visa is on the chopping block if I don't at least get enough to make it a siggy. SW Premier is likely being chopped and If I cant make the incidentals work for me then the Ritz-Carlton is also.
I may close the Freedom as well towards the end of the year as the 0% period ends and PC my CSP to CS or Freedom if allowed (15.99% is better than 22.99%)
This ^ is a carbon copy of my own plan. That double deuce apr just doesn't cut it and evryone knows they don't cater to apr reduction requests.
- Barclay Rewards MC. Got it to build a relationship with them in hopes for the Arrival+. Not only do I not want the Arrival+ anymore, barclays has also been stingy with the CLI's. So screw em.
- Would love to close out my CapOne VentureOne, but as it's a no AF card, and my oldest, that would be stupid.
- Will most likely close Citi ThankYou Preferred too

I've closed my only store card I received via SCT. I do not use, or care to use anymore. Closed Barclays Rewards, & today my Amex Green which took an hour to close bc the MR customer care person canceled ALL my Amex cards! She then had to put me on hold to figure out how to reactivate my EDP & Platinum. After hanging up, I logged in to discover my MR points were missing. I had to do an online chat to resolve that.
Anyways, no other closures planned at the moment.
GADS ... with help from AX Reps you could be out of business
Glad they were able to reinstate/fix the error!
I plan on closing my Amex Blue and my Citi AA executive.
which is about 27k worth of credit line
The plan so far...
I've got way to many cards, I went crazy when I started getting approved so I'm in that boat. I have SD US AIR, Marriott, walmart MC, a CU card, I use my freedom, discover, amazon visa, AMEX, slate, Barclay rewards and a CU card. My husband works seasonally, so he will go back to work in march. He makes much more then I do annually, so I plan to pay off my cards shortly after he goes back. BTW I am only carrying balances on freedom and slate with 0% interest.
I will close Marriott and transfer to amazon before AF, I want to close US Air before AF and transfer to rewards, I will keep and pay Amex green AF in the hopes of getting a blue next year.....
love having credit, not loving the credit card debt though.....
I identified 3 cards on the chopping block for this year, though I may wait til Feb 2015 when they've all gotten to at least 3 years payment history:
- Walmart, rarely shop there and I have a plethora of TU 08 FICO's available now, and their not generating a statement without a balance is really beginning to irk me
- A USAA basic no frills card, it's a tradeline farm which I'm starting to think I don't need. Not known for their CC's and all my insurance and a secured loan are through them so not needed from any future relationship perspective either. I can't even find what to put on the card to keep it active in my financial life, maybe see if I can do a $1 recurring donation to the local public radio station like the $10 I do on my Zync, or split 5/5 that'd work.
- DCU secured card: would replace this with a regular no-rewards card from DCU or Logix and hope for a 15K+ tradeline if I ever wind up in the situation of floating a balance or being homeless. Not certain how feasible this is as I still have 3 non-trivial derogatories from 2010, all paid, but I'm nowhere close to excellent credit and that sometimes shows up in their approval data.

Why have I never thought of doing this with my SD'd cards?
Really makes me rethink closing any cards. Throw a small monthly donation to a charity on any cards I don't use, set to PIF, bam, win win.
