Authorized user's

Added my wife to my walmart card this evening as a authorized user with the hopes of credit piggybacking her on my good payment history, low credit utilization, and long account standing.Upon asking them to add her,the represenitive told me how i would be responsible for all charges to the account and that once she is added as a AU on the account they will be reporting it to all 3 credit beurea's on me and on her as a AU..But they never asked for her social security number.I asked the represenitive how they would report it to the credit beurea's without her SS# and she said they have a special dept that handles that and not to worry about it..So my question is,how can they report it on her credit without her SS number?

Re: Authorized user's

Hmmm. Well I guess you just wait and see if it pops up on her credit file. That's crazy!!!

Re: Authorized user's

I had an issue once with the CRA's confusing me with someone else on an AU account.  Experian and Transunion removed it right away, but equifax took the entire 30 days.

Re: Authorized user's

Public records and things of that nature assist in this process. My wife is an AU on six of my accounts (all reported to her files), and the only one who asked for SSN (IIRC) was Cap One.

Even with all the advanced tech to assist with this process, mistakes do happen, so I would check her reports in a month or two to verify.

Re: Authorized user's

Not meaning to steal the OPs thread but what are the benefits an authorized user gets for their credit history? My girlfriend just got her first card (the Discover IT) and so she has a limited credit history. I'm exploring adding her to a low utilization card of mine if it would benefit us when we get married and look to get a house down the road.

It would be a huge help if that card is in good shape (no baddies, high limit, low UTL). You would be gifting her all of the history of that card.

Well im going to call back tomorrow and see if I can get a more definitive answer.Last thing i want is a mistake being reported and it takeing several months to clear up.We've been living with my parents for 9 months now paying down our credit cards and some other small medical bills so we can buy a house..Needless to say,we are ready to get our own place again.
