B of A Application - AMEX Rewards

Just app'ed for the Bank of America Rewards American Express Card. FICO scores TU=687, EX=687 and EQ=695; one baddie=120 days late 01/2005. 13 lates total on two cards, most recent late 07/2005. Three other TL's showing perfect history (CC and installment, including low balance - $6K - auto loan). Three hard inquiries showing on TU (the one BofA pulls here).

I received a mailed pre-approved offer for the Platinum Plus card, went on line, checked for pre-approved offers there and three cards came up: American Express Rewards, Platinum Plus and the Bankamericard.

I app'ed for the AMEX Rewards card and the response was:
"We will respond to you within thirty days by U.S. Mail at:"

Is this good or bad?

This is the first CC I have applied for since 1999. I had a lot of bad stuff to clear up.

Keeping my fingers crossed...

BTW - after I app'ed the offers were taken down. Site said it was because I had accepted one of the offers.

It's not necessarily a rejection; I have received a reply by mail message (although I think it was less than 30 days) and been approved.

Your info sounds close to mine and I was approved.  They pulled EX and TU for me.  I received the 'hurry up and wait' message, so I called to recon.  Was approved for 2k on the BofA Amex.

I had thirteen 120 day lates (from 2001) that seemed to bother them the most.  This came up in the recon.  My last lates on CCs also occured in 2005.  The majority of my accts are in good standing.

Below is the link to the message of my approval process:

Good luck!

Re: B of A Application - AMEX Rewards

I went back to the BofA website and tried to check the status of my application. It said the information I entered did not match anything they had. That gave me a ready made reason to call. I went through the call tree and when I chose the "App'ed less that 10 days ago" option it dumped me out and said c/b after ten days. I called back and chose the 10+ day option. I was asked to provide my SSN and home telephone number, both of which it said did not match their records. GROWING WORRY!!

I got an app taker on the line and she was able to pull up my application which was...

APPROVED - $2.5K

I was asked to explain nothing. The approval had already happened. I asked about a higher CL and BT and the agent said to ask for both at activation. They pulled at least one hard inquiry - I don't know where, yet. The CSR said they would use the results of that hard for considering the CLI at activation.

The pre-approval offer said I was good for $1.5K. They gave me $2.5K with no hassles. I did indicate on the app that I wanted to BT $1.7K to the card. I have an open a/c with Providian with a $3.9K CL and I am hoping they will match or better that at activation. $5K plus would be nice. This is the account I want to do the BT off. The current APR is 31.99% - WAMU recently said effective 05MAY it will lower the APR to 29.99%. I will be lowering it to ZERO before then...

I will update this thread when I get the opening CL settled and also post info to wgmc.

I have received two invitations to apply for affinity versions of this card very recently - one from my univeristy and one from AAII. Is there any reason to call the ask for one of those or should I just stick with the generic card?

Wooo hooo !!  My first prime card in decades (literally). The information at this site is indispensible.

Same thing happened to me. Unfortunately I app'd on a Friday night, so I wasn't able to reach anybody until Monday morning. I called first things and told them that I was concerned that I did something wrong because they website couldn't find my application. They looked it up on the spot and told me that I had been approved for $9600. Congrats on your new card! Smiley Happy

Same thing happened to me too. I called up the listed backdoor number and was told that my card has been approved for 2k limit. The online status did not work and that phone message kept saying to wait for 10 days, yeah right! Who can wait! I dunno why these companies cant give you the decision when it has been made already!

Re: B of A Application - AMEX Rewards

I actually got a Score Watch alert today (wonder of wonders), and voila, there was my new account! Raised my EQ FICO two points to 697, as I figured it would. And that was with no credit limit reporting so no benefit from decreased UTIL. No hard inq on EQ and I have alerts on TU and nothing has come through there, either. They soft me on TU all the time for their mailed offers. Do they pull EX for FL? Or was this the immaculate approval... [not]

I'll report later when the CL is settled.

They generally pull EX for everyone.  They are also known to pull EX and TU both.
