Re: B of A CL!

Thats nuts... they gave you that with a tax lien and high 600's?  I 've seen a post on here where the guy had a past BK with 800+ scores, got approved for a BOA card then they took the card away when the PR was realized.

Re: B of A CL!

I am not going for limits, just trying to get rid of cards from my sub-500 days and replace with better cards and lower rates. The Amex was for the rewards. I like to travel and when I went to Africa my friend used airline miles from his credit card for a free ticket. I paid $1200. I like the concept of free tickets.

It's only dangerous if you misuse it. My $18k CL has $500 on it. We used it for our wedding and charged about $12k at the time, but have since paid most of it off.

Re: B of A CL!

It does make a difference to have a checking account at B of A.  I applied twice this month for a B of A CC and was denied both times.  I opened a checking account with them online and when I called to get the account info, the CSR told me I was pre-approved for a B of A Platinum Visa with a $2000 CL...lol.  I opened the checking account in order to fund a 99/500 secured card offer I received.  Guess I won't have to do that now that I have an unsecured card with them.  Smiley Tongue

Re: B of A CL!

The liens are older, some are realeased and the others being paid off. It's not just the PR it's how you handle your existing credit and for 7 years I have been as close to perfect as I can be. No lates, no collections, no new public records, and proper use of my available credit. that inlcudes low utilization and always paying on time.

Re: B of A CL!

It seems that may have been the case here as well.

Exactly!

It can seem like forever while you wait for all this stuff to get older, but all the subsequent years of keeping things squeaky clean, plus low, low util, make the difference. I'm waiting it out, too. All I had were lates, due to near-fatal disorganization, but there it is, I learned from my mistakes, and I'm building my credit to a much better profile.

I like having high CL's. I barely use them, but it's good to know that they're there, in case some sort of disaster hits.

And as you said, they're not dangerous if you're not tempted. Some people can sit in a room full of dishes of chocolate candy and ignore them all. Others will be on an insulin drip within an hour. You have to know yourself and not lie to yourself about what you can and can't handle.

In the interest of disclosure the 7 figures was a joke. Sorry, I thought that was clear.

Ah, OK.  No, it wasn't clear to me, anyway.  I tend to take people at their word, and seven figures is not nearly as uncommon as it used to be.  (Not that I make anywhere close to that.)

humm....can the seven figures include the two numbers after the decimel point?  I think I would qualify to say that then.  Smiley Tongue
