Re: BCE DECLINE! Have a few questions...

To add to the reasons others posted (inquiries, income), you've stated you've barely used the Gold, and judging from your profile are wrapping your arms around Chase.

To be brutally honest, this isn't a good profile to be chasing a $0 AF card with; I have nothing to back this up with but you might've gotten in with the BCP in case you continued your non-use of the Amex cards, they wouldn't continue to lose money on you.

Amex likes income and people who spend money, specifically, those that spend money with them.  Beyond that, I cannot explain why was approved with an altogether worse credit report than you, other than I may have more income, and I used the hell out of my Zync pre-BCP, and now am using the BCP in much the same way.  Relationships with lenders go both ways like all others in life, except maybe ones with saints.

Re: BCE DECLINE! Have a few questions...

Wishing you good luck with your recon! You will get it, if not now eventually. The Amex love will come. You're already in with a great card. Give it some time if not approved with recon now, maybe 6 to 12 months. You've got a great card lineup! Smiley Happy

Current Scores: EX 733, EQ 738, TU 738
Current Cards: Discover IT $19,000, Amex BCE $20,000, BofA Rewards Visa (AAA) $16,000, Chase Freedom Unlimited $10,000, Avenue $1,190, Lane Bryant $750

Re: BCE DECLINE! Have a few questions...

You can try applying for the Delta Skymiles. I was denied the BCE...(after being approved for the Green) I then apped for the Delta 24hrs later and got 7k. I'm going to PC to BCE/BCP at a later time.

I don't think i'm completely understanding your point. How is amex losing money on me? Could you clarify a little bit for me?

I know I don't utilize the card a whole lot, but i still PIF, and I have a card that I pay an annual fee for. So IF ANYTHING, I'm losing money....lol.

I WOULD use my amex more often, but I've racked up more points with Chase since I got the 40k bonus with the CSP and the 10k with the freedom. Plus, I fly on SW and United more often I do with any other airline. And the 1x point per dollar isn't worth me racking up the points. Thats why I was aiming for the cash back card. Because with that, at least the rewards would be more worth it. I was thinking about giving my Chase love a break, but then i can only imagine how many points i'd be losing out on if I switched my purchases to my amex.

hmmm...I was actually thinking about doing that. I just wanted the BCE though. I didn't really need an airline card. I don't really fly through Delta anyways. Normally its either United or Southwest. But there's no point in me getting either of those cards since I have my CSP which I can transfer to both of those airlines.

I may have to reconsider going that route though.

I just re-read my message. I HOPE its not coming off as rude or with an attitude. Because I'm DEFINITELY not trying to come off that way.lol. I just simply meant, I honestly need a little bit more clarification because I don't think I'm completely understanding the point you're trying to get across.

Just wanted to make myself clear just in case my message came off that way!

Thanks for your input btw.

Re: BCE DECLINE! Have a few questions...

If you don't use the card often, the lender is not making that much money off of you ie swipe fees.

To explain what Relevate is trying to say:

A lender can only extend so much credit based on what assets they have. Federal laws require them to maintain a ratio of assets to money they loan out.

If you're not making use of the money the lender is extending out to you, that "credit" is basically sitting there not generating any profit (interest, swipe fees, etc), which the lender could have if they had extended it to someone else instead. This is why lenders close out inactive accounts, and certain lenders, i.e. Chase, can be very "stingy" about CLIs if they feel that the credit they extend to you is just gonna be used to pad your utilization ratio and nothing else.

In my opinion, since you don't have much use for MR points, you ought to close the account before the annual fee hits.

Is there a reason why the BCE would help you better than the CSP? Or do you want it just because it's a Amex revolver?

Even with the BCE giving 3x on groceries, it's just 1ccp, which is literally 3% cashback.

The CSP on the other hand, gives you 1 point for groceries, but if you transfer it to SW / United, you get 3ccp easily, which makes it equivalent to a 3% cashback card.

Anyways, wait for the letter and then decide what to do next.

If I am not wrong, appealing the decision will result in HP(s). If they're denying you based on inquiries, new accounts and/or utilization, it's best to just leave it alone and apply again in the future.
