@Anonymous wrote:If the Flex is like the old Freedom then it should be 3% standard with a 5% SUB for the first year.
The Flex is only 1% for groceries, but has a 5% for one year (capped at $12,000)
It's dining and drugstores that is 3%.
If you're thinking of MR points in terms of their equivalent worth in cash, then it's probably not the best currency for you.
It's good to have some high value redemptions in mind when collecting MR points. Think of it as working toward a travel goal rather than as money.
As for good cards for earning points on grocery spend, the Gold card as well as the EDP are great options.
The EDP is the closest equivalent to the BCP for points vs. cash. It earns 4.5x on groceries, 3x on gas, and 1.5x on everything else if you have at least 30 transactions in a statement period. Not bad for $95 annual fee.

Right, that is what I thought, + often a 5% quarter for groceries

EDP has the same cap as the BCP, however, at 6k.
And you have to be willing to micro-manage your purchases to maximize it (ie, a few times a month I have to break down a grocery shop into individual purchases in order to hit 30 purchases while still using OTHER cards where they earn more... for a long time this was my daily driver for non-category stuff, which getting 1.5 MR made it solid, but now I have the AOD). All that being said, the 4.5 points is better than a Gold Card in value (which gives you 4 points for a much much higher AF), and it's an overall very solid card that doesn't get enough credit, especially if DON'T diversify your wallet.

Im just getting started here but im having trouble identifying a "goal" for rewards based cards to get me excited to progress
I like the idea of BCP 6% but are there any other alternatives or 2 card/same rewards system combos that would be a benefit to me
My stable spending has some key categories yearly but i really want travel vs CB
Spend (yearly)
Groc- 8-11k
Auto Loan: 3K
GNC: Merchant Code 5499(5999 if Paypal Used)? 3K
Drugstores: 1K
Check out this link and see which one fits you most:

BOA Cash rewards if you have 100k investment money and willing to move to Merrill Edge, your BOA cash rewards can be 5.25% cash back of your choice and 3.5% cash back on Grocery though Cap at 2500 per quarter (10k per year)
Another option is if those places have mobile pay - US Bank Altitude Reserve 3X for mobile pay, no cap I believe = 4.5% cashback when redeemed against travel charges with only $75 effective annual fee.
The above two I would suggest other than other 3% grocery cards with no cap like Golden1 CU (somewhat geo restrictive and only yearly redemption) or Bank of the West (geo restrictive).
Plus one or two of the rotators like Chase Freedom, Discover It, Citi Dividend and you should be all set!!

^ for clarification @csryang, Citi isn't offering the Dividend any more. If you are an existing cardholder, then you get the rotating bonus.
And there's no way to PC it (currently) from another Citi card. Trust me, a number of us would be on that in a heartbeat if it were possible.
The grocery spend with an NFCU More Rewards might be a worthwhile option, no reward limits or annual fee.
Navy More Rewards AMEX is 3% groceries, dining and gas - no cap & no AF
this card coupled with a Freedom Flex and a Discover card is a great combo
for those three categories. You will get 5% on each of those categories at least
two quarters per year.
