BCP gas question?

I was reading the info on my new Amex BCP and have a question about the fuel cash back. It clearly states 6% for grocery and 3% for gas but in the gas category it said does not apply for grocery stores that have gas. So if I buy gas at Kroger or Sam's club which category would this fall under?

Re: BCP gas question?

You need a gas station not tied to a store rewards program for the 3% I'm pretty sure.

Re: BCP gas question?

So if I buy gas at a grocery store does that fall under the 6% grocery category? Or does it go to the 1% for everything else category?

Re: BCP gas question?

1%

Edit:  I just got the BCP in my hand yesterday myself but those are the rules as I read them.  Someone else can maybe confirm.  I was getting gas at Fred Meyer which is a division of Kroger but I'll have to stop and switch to the mobile station down the street to get the 3%.

Re: BCP gas question?

OP, I was in the same situation recently. I always filled up at Qwik Shop until I checked my statements it was 1%, not 3%.

Kind of what I figured but thought I would ask. Thanks for your help. I am still waiting to get my card in hand. Should be here Monday I hope.

Re: BCP gas question?

I'm surprised nobody has compiled a user confirmed retailer list for this card.

Edit:  I've just assumed I can't grocery shop at Fred Meyer because they have a furniture and electronics section but I'd like to know for sure.

Its not feasable to come up with such a list. The same name store in different locations could be coded differently. Heck, the same store could be coded differently depending on where in the store you pay for your transaction.

You can try using this tool:

https://www.visa.com/supplierlocator/index.jsp

TU-8: 804 EX-8: 805 EQ-8: 788 EX-98: 767 EQ-04: 752
TU-9 Bankcard: 837 EQ-9: 823 EX-9 Bankcard: 837
Total $443,800

Re: BCP gas question?

I use Quicken and download my transactions.  If Quicken automatically catagorizes a transactions as "grocery" does that indicate I'll get the 6% cashback rate?

Rewards program isn't relevant.  Shell is tied to Kroger's reward program and is coded as a gas station.  It's the merchant coding that matters and I have no idea how Kroger's gas stations are coded.
