Yesterday I received an email from BJs Wholesale Club about taking a survey regarding improving the BJs MasterCard.
Was given a $10 gift card for participating in the survey. Survey lasted about 10 minutes and they wanted to know thoughts on how much I used the card, if it was my primary card to shop at BJs and would I consider using it outside of BJs if the spend categories was improved. One scenario was that the regular BJs card would earn 3% in warehouses, while the higher priced membership MasterCard would earn 5%. They also fielded questions about how I felt about keeping the .10 cents off gas purchased at BJ clubs.
I think they are trying to make it on the scale of the Costco Visa. I had read where they might be looking at turning the card over to Capital 1, although I have not heard anything more about that. Regardless of whether they are switching issuers, it looks like they are making attempts to overhaul this lackluster card.
It was the 1.5% general spend for the one card and 2% on the other that I found intriguing. I'm not sure if I'd bite, but it is a bit tempting if it comes to fruition.
I like BJs CC, it does what it supposed to! Offer rewards for BJs purchases. I get enough rewards that covers all the fees and couple of hundred more! I don't use this card outside of BJs at all.
However I don't like the reward structure that it expires in few months and you can not redeem it at once!
They are moving to CapOne soon, so hopefully we'll see some improvement in rewards! But I'm concern how CapOne would structure this card!
I think they are wanting to look at doing 3% on the regular membership MC with the 5% option going to the MC associated with the $110 membership
I have a BJ's MasterCard but I didn't receive the survey. I was told when I called in a month or so ago that they (Comenity) are unsure if they will be buying our accounts and converting them to Comenity Mastercards. I read that there is a lawsuit between BJ's and Comenity about Comenity not turning the accounts over fast enough.
Personally, I like on the CapOne Walmart MC I can redeem my cash rewards towards the balance I owe instead of having to get Walmart gift cards.
