BT question

Howdy. So DW opened a new card and did a BT from an old card with a 1300 balance.

She made a payment on the old card of 250 before the BT went through.

The new card now shows a balance of 1300 plus the 5% BT fee.

The old card has a balance of less than 1100 but the new card still took the original amount. How is this going to play out?

I thought the new card would've only taken whatever balance there was left on the old card.

Re: BT question

The new card took whatever the amount you ask for by sending a payment to old card, as long as it is less than the credit line you had been approved for.
If the old card showing negative balance now, you can ask for a refund check

+1

When you initiate a balance transfer there is no 'conversation' between the two card companies... the one company simply sends a payment to the other company, who will treat it like any other payment.

If there is an overpayment that creates a credit balance, you can generally get them to send you a check, or simply charge against the credit (my preferred method).
