@discernment please let us know when you get your card backdated to '81. I would love to see a picture of it. (of course, cover up some of the numbers)

Its not just 5 more years, its fifteen (15) more years.
Im sorry I thought you posted 1986.Go get it backdated yes!! Im glad you are good at keeping records,it will seal the deal. My dad is an attorney for over forty years and although we laugh because he keeps everything it is smart. I learned early in life never write something you wouldnt want your parents to read, dont sign anything till I see it first, and the most important if you pay so much as a 10 $ parking ticket make a file and keep it forever. I tell people 7 years bull on records keep everything. Im glad someone else has my train of thought. My fiancee says Im a paper hoarder. Apple doesnt fall far from the tree.

When I called, the CSR told me they would have to investigate further because the online system that they see doesn't go back that far. SO, they're investigating the old account numbers that I sent to them. They told me that if they need the old statements as well, they will let me know. Until they complete their investigation, I am in limbo. I don't care what the card says on it, I just want the my online account page to reflect the true backdating year so that my credit reports will also reflect that as well.

I had a card going back to 85. Believe it or not, it is still showing on one of my credit reports. When i got a new amex a couple years ago, i was back dated to 97 ( had been thinking it was 94 but i was wrong). In any event, even with it still showing on a report, i could not get the back date to 85. Yeah it would have been nice, but i decided not to push it..i did not want them to pull the old card off the file it is in. Good luck but i dont think you will prevail..but you never know. All the companies seem to use a magic formula that seems to change regularly and that we the consumer dont have much control over.
Out of curiosity, did the old card accounts end without charge off etc?

No charge offs. I had a green and a gold charge that I seldom if ever used. I have 2 old bills from each card because I probably only used them twice. Credit seemed like a silly concept to me back then.

Yeah, that's the way I left it with the CSR I dealt with -- if they can't find the old accounts, I'm okay with member since 1996. I have an old Discover card STILL reporting from back in 1996 so, I'm not sure that the Amex is going to give me any boost -- but, we'll see.
@discernment Do you have an updated credit score? I would like, and I'm sure others also, to know the score before and after a "15 year credit account" is updated.
