Balance transfer to restore Amex

Hey everyone!

I just got approved for discover it to the tune of 10k. They are offering 0% for 14 months on a balance transfer.
Many many years ago, I burned Amex for about 3k. Would it be a good idea to use my balance transfer on that to get back in their good graces?
I really want to open a business Amex by the end of the year.

If you pay back Amex in full for what you owe them, not a settled amount, your chances of getting back in with them would be good. I would call Amex and make sure that they didn't at some point send off your account to an outside CA first.

Amex will usually keep their accounts internally for several years first in an attempt to collect, as they have their own internal collection department, before bringing in an outside source.

Call Amex first to see where your account is, and the amount. Ask for the address to send the payment too as well, as that will be different than the regular payment address for a current account.

Good luck!

Re: Balance transfer to restore Amex

Hey OP, it’s definitely worth a shot. I have a friend that burned Amex for 25k. Two years after the account was charged off she paid them back in full. 6 months later Amex approved her for the BCE/12K and Platinum with 15K Pay Over Time and I believe her score was around 690 or so. She had a lengthy history with them prior to falling on bad times so maybe that has something to do with them giving her a second shot. Good luck!

Just curious OP.  Was AmEx 'burned' as in an unpaid CO or IIB?  How long ago was this event?

Unpaid CO.
I recently tried for a. Amazon Business Amex and the denial letter said it's because my last account was cancelled. I called for further clarification and she said if I paid it off I could try again. I asked for the last statement to be mailed so I could get the exact amount but they just sent me the denial letter again.
