Bank of America payment issue

hey everyone,

I am trying to set up a pay from account to pay my bank americard bill. I am using the same account I have used with discover and chase with no issues. However, BOA will not accept my account and information. An error message comes up telling me to re-enter information or contact my bank to see if this is an account I can withdraw funds from.

Im curious why they won't accept the account, which is a checking account, while I have had no problems any other time.

Try calling them? Without more information, we can't do much for you.

Re: Bank of America payment issue

Did you double check the routing numbers and account numbers you entered? What checking account are you trying to link?

+1

I always prefer to push from my checking, as I feel like it gives me more control.  It also prevents problems like this from 'popping up'.

This being said, if the routing/account number has been used successfully before for other cards, it seems like it should work for all of them.  I would just give BoA a call to see what the problem is.

Re: Bank of America payment issue

Welcome to the forum! When you set up payment accounts for BOA, I believe you have to verify them. They make 2 small deposits and then you have to verify/confirm the payment amounts on their site. I found the below instructions online.

How do I add a Pay From account from another bank?

You can add checking or money market accounts from another bank to fund payments in Bill Pay. These external accounts can be personal or small business accounts. Go to the Pay From tab to add an external account. You'll need to verify the account before making payments.

To verify your account:
1.When you send in your request to add an account from another bank, 2 trial deposits will be transferred to your external account. You'll also see a withdrawal that equals the 2 amounts that were used to make the trial deposits.

2.Within 2 to 3 business days after submitting your request, check your account to identify the trial deposits we sent. They will appear as Bank of America Trial Deposits (or they may have a more general description depending on your financial institution).

3.Find the trial deposits online or in your account statement from your other financial institution and make a note of the 2 trial deposit amounts.

4.Select the Manage Pay To/Pay From link under the Bill Pay tab and then select the Pay From tab to find the verification link that takes you to the verification page. Type in the 2 trial deposit amounts in the 1st and 2nd Bill Pay Deposit Amount fields. Make sure the amounts you enter match the amounts of the transactions. Keep in mind that you'll have a limited number of attempts to confirm your account.

5.Select the Verify Pay From Account button.

I hope this helps. Have a good day!

Does BoA actually require trial deposits back to the external checking account used to pay their own bill?  I've never heard of that; all of my card issuers just ask for the routing/account number for the payment account and they initiate the ACH pull.  If they are, they are really serious about security, but it could cause a problem for a payment account that wasn't set up to take ACH deposits.
