Barclay Blacklist - How To Get Off

I am unable to apply for a barclays card.  I guess i had an account at least 10 or more years ago that defaulted.  Cannot recall ever having a barclays card but they said i did.    Anyhow, has anyone succesfuly gotten off.  I have done reading that its almost impossible but a few have been able to use the recon line.  Wondering if there are any key words to say that makes it easier to get them to recon.

Thank you for your pearls of wisdom.

you don't

it is likely a life sentence and there are no pardons

there's been rare DPs of people not being blacklisted forever, but I would just move on and assume you won't be able to get another card from them again

Re: Barclay Blacklist - How To Get Off

I got blacklisted too even though I paid them, just not at the interest rate they wanted.

My follies with Barclay's occurred when I went over my limit, and they sent a letter telling me they were raising my interest rate from 7.99% to 29.99% unless I made payment in ten days to bring me back under my credit limit.  I blew it off, and they raised my interest rate.

Talked to a CSR, who changed the rate back.  The problem was their systems kept changing it back to 29.99%.  Got tired of calling in constantly to have the rate adjusted back to 7.99%.  So, I put the card in a DMP to get the interest rate back down.

Credit ruined forever with Barclay's.  That was 12 years ago, and I still can't get a card.

Unless something has recently changed the Barclays black list is forever (usually, anyway).  I burned them 20+ years ago and I assume I'm still on it, although I've not applied with them since the days when the Sallie Mae Mastercard was a thing.

Things are very different for me now and other banks welcomed me back with open arms, but I can't say I blame Barclays for their business model.  Thankfully their current card lineup isn't that competitive so I'm not missing out on much (I know some might disagree, but their current cards aren't a good fit for me).

I did consider getting the Banana Republic card before the change from Synchrony to Barclays to see if that might be a way for me to get 'back in', but in the end I realized it just didn't mean that much to me so I didn't. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Re: Barclay Blacklist - How To Get Off

In my opinion, it's hard to get a card with Barclays even if you're not blacklisted.

They didn't approve me before my Chapter 7, when at some point my credit was very good.

I did my best to avoid Chapter 7, but Covid made it worse, and I didn't have a choice.

I'm a bit worried because I have the Apple Card. As many of you know, Barclays and Synchrony are in talks with Apple about replacing Goldman Sachs as its Apple Card partner. If so, Barclays may close the card because, to them, I am considered a subprime customer for having a BK on my credit report. Synchrony is no better, but maybe less strict than Barclays or Chase.

Oh yea. Barclays was 100% right on the 29.99%. They hit you with the penalty APR properly. If you qualify for the penalty APR by violating the account terms like exceeding the credit limit you need to pay the whole thing off and then wait 6mo for it to be reduced. Lots of cases of people stuck in the penalty zone. Thankfully penalty APR's no longer happen.
