Barclay is alright with me. APR reductions, increases, instant approvals = no problem. Plus they leave me alone despite opening a bunch of cards and score plummets. Smiley Tongue But I tend to judge a lender based on my personal experiences with them and not what I read about others issues.

As far as this situation I think they should have made more of an effort to contact you, definitely dropped the ball on this one. :/ At least send an email.

Agreed, heavenlyflower. I really do like Barclay overall, this was just an example of CS having inconsistent ways of doing things and the probable pain of being concerned about this automated transaction coming through.

Not a Barclay rant as I do like them, but I would have appreciated some (any) effort to contact me as I had no clue what was going on.

In my experience otnly Amex has truly intelligent fraud detection. Even Chase has been to quick to decline a purchase. With Amex. Never. And not once had i called to advise of travel.

Agree...Venture, Citi didn't have any problems for me after a vacation for a week in Florida. I ran Freedom for a $200 charge and boom! Declined lol. Chase was the only bank I notified of my travel plans and still denied. A quick respond from chase through txt fixed the issue but common! Barclays? I didn't even bother using their cards, I took theirs on a trip to Nevada last year, their fraud department called me stating they have canceled my cards and sent me new ones to my hotel due to fraud. Good riddance!

Barclays is alright with me too.  And I agree that they should have notified the OP by email.  That's what they did for me when something similar happened with my Sallie Mae MC back in October.

Early in October of this year, Barclaycard sent me an email that stated the following:

The security of your Sallie Mae MasterCard may have been compromised as a result of a recent data breach at a merchant location.  We're taking action now to help protect your account.

The email also went on to give some steps that needed to be followed when the new card arrived, such as activating the new card, destroying the old card, notifying bill payment services and merchants that automatically bill your account, etc.

Later in the month, they sent follow-up emails reminding me to activate my new card.  The messages also stated that my old card wouldn't work after 10/30/15.  My only problem with that was that I didn't have the new card yet.  I contacted CS via a secure message and asked them to tell me when the new card was placed in the mail.  They responded back quickly and provided the date.  The new card arrived just in the nick of time, but it wasn't that big of a deal because I had other cards to use (and fortunately no automated bill payments linked to the old card).

So far, I haven't experienced any declines with the old card or the new card (knock knock on wood!) and that included some out of state travel earlier this year and I didn't notify Barclays ahead of time.
