Just wondering what people did or didn't do who got Barclay's auto-CLIs and how long before you got one?
I've had my Apple card for 6 mos and was hoping for a 6-mo auto-CLI. I got it in November, so the 6th month stmt just cut and no CLI. I'm not willing to take a HP at this time for a CLI.
I'd really like to know what worked for others. Did you always PIF? Did you finance over a 0% period?
My util is low, so if they soft me, they're not seeing anything negative. I've only gotten one new card reporting since Barclays', and that just reported the other day. I'm really prime for a CLI, so I'd like to know if maybe there's something else I could be doing to hurry it along. Or if they even do 6-mo CLIs. I thought I've read people getting them.
Any suggestions and what's worked for others would be great. Thanks!
I have two cards with Barclay's (Apple Visa and Carnival MC). I have received several auto CLIs on both. I think three or four on each over the past couple of years. I'm not sure what they specifically look for as I use both cards very differently. With regards to the Apple Visa, I use this card more heavily and generally carry some type of small balance. Currently it has a slightly higher balance than usual as I took advantage of the 0% financing around the holidays to purchase some gifts at the Apple store. I use the Carnival MC much less and currently only have one small auto-payment that goes to it each month for my gym membership.
The Apple Visa has risen from a CL of 2k in 2008 to 4.1k. The Carnival MC started at 2k in 2009 and is now at 6.5k. Aside from usage, I can tell you that the Carnival MC was the last CC I applied for and it was the last CC account I opened. I have read that Barclay's is inquiry sensitive so the fact that I haven't applied for any new credit since then and have had all the inquiries fall of my TU CR may have helped in the auto CLIs I received. I think two occurred in 2010 and two in 2011. I haven't received one yet for 2012.
I know when I first recieved my Barclay's card it took a year to see a auto-cli I would wait to see if this happens to you but Barclay's can be unpredictable I have had my card for some years now I believe in 2008, after my 1st two cli's which was yearly I was then getting auto-cli's every six months and now this year just like the other poster no cli for 2012 I would have been due last month so go figure.
Thanks for the replies. I guess I won't expect anything from them for at least another 6 mos. I really wish they did SP CLIs!
Bichon-
I had a balance of $8923.49 on a CL of $12,800 when they gave me an auto CLI to $14,300 in January 2012. Barclays is fickle and unpredictable. Do not think you will automatically not get a CLI. Do not try and figure out Barclays- you will go crazy.
edit=bad typing
That's a good CLI w/ a big bal! I guess there is no figuring them out. Just wondering if I could expect a CLI @ 6 mos., and it looks like not. Unless they have more 0% offers on the Apple card, I'm gonna try and PC it at the end of the year. I don't use it because there are 0 rewards. It's been nice to finance my iPad, tho. I'd like to get a Mac Book Pro, but only w/0% (and would need healthy CLI to do it, too.)
Bichonmom, I'm in the same boat as you. I got a Barclay's Rewards MC in November with a $1000 limit. I've used it sparingly and always pif prior to the statement being cut in order for a zero balance to report. I use another card with a higher limit to allow a tiny balance to report to maintain optimum scores. Anyway, my sixth Barclaycard statement just cut a few days ago, and I just KNEW I would login the next morning and see that a CLI had been applied... but boy was I wrong. I don't know what gives. My score has improved about 15 points while I've had the card, and I feel like I've done everything right. It's not the end of the world though, if it happens then great... if not, so be it.
Bichonmom, they offer the 0% APR for Apple purchases periodically throughout the year. I also recently read a post stating that if you call CS and state you want to make a purchase at Apple, they can instantly give you the 0% APR. I received my most recent 0% offer around the Holidays (November). When you are in the market for the Mac Book Pro, I would call them and see if they can give you the rate.
