It is a AMEX network card.   So from the point of view of Customer and Merchant, it is a true AMEX card.

It is provided by Barclays bank not the American Express Bank, so not the same for paying your bill.

Re: Barclays Travelocity ???L?

I believe you need to wait at least 6 mos before apping for a second Barclay's.

It's a co-branded Amex. It's got the Amex logo, but the banking behind it is Barclay's. (Approvals, CLIs, etc. would all be from Barclays.) Also, NO backdating with co-branded Amex. Smiley Happy

Here's a link to the T&C: https://www.barclaycardus.com/app/japply/lp/TnCs.jsp?prodidreq=CCAAE30993&cpc=TAX

Top line says: The Travelocity Rewards American Express ® Card is issued and administered by Barclays Bank Delaware

Not exactly true.   Backdating is something that American Express bank does.   Barclay bank does not back date.

It has nothing to do with it being co-branded.  Cobranded is the store and network.

In this case, Travelocity, AMEX (network)

Ameican Express Bank has cobranded cards like   Delta Sky Miles, AMEX(network).   I believe they backdate for those.

Re: Barclays Travelocity ???L?

I didn't get instant approved online. I called  backdoor and I got approved for $5K.  It's not true Amex.  The rate is 23.99% and it is very high compared to my other Amex cards. They pulled TU.

Yes. Just to clarify:  I'm referring to Amex cards that are administered by other banks (like Barclay's). Those are not backdated. Yes, if it's an Amex that is offered on Amex's website and is administered by Amex, then it would be backdated.

Some would consider the Barclay's Travelocity a prime card with sub prime tendencies (or vice versa). Aside from the above average APRs the card nets some decent rewards. The card with the AF has a bit more earning power. Cause you can choose from a category to receive x2 points (gas, restaurants etc) in addition to x5 points you will receive from purchases from travelocity.

If you purchase $4k in travel from the travelocity website you will receive 20,000 points. 20K in Travelocity points will net a $400 credit (used towards more travel). That figures a Whopping 10% in return!!! This does not include the bonus points for sign up (not sure what it is at the moment when I signed up I received 7,500 bonus points).

The card also has a decent 0% BT offer for 9 months (what was offered when I was approved- I'm not sure what it is now) if you BT within time frame you will receive additional travelocity points (up to 5k I think). Be weary of the BT fee!

All things considered it's a pretty good card. This is essentially my gas card. I considered using it for revolving purchases at Costco but the APR does not warrant that strategy.

Re: Barclays Travelocity ???L?

American Express Network is another payment network like Discover, Visa and MasterCard. Up until several years ago, only American Express Centurion Bank issued cards on the American Express Network. Maybe one day we will see Bank of America, Citi and Chase issue cards on the Discover Network. Citi ThankYou Preferred Discover Card? Chase Sapphire Discover? Smiley Wink
