It's interesting on the Barclay's internal list of cards, this new CashForward card is listed as "Excellent" credit needed, but the Arrival+ which is their WEMC is listed as "Excellent/Good".

I actually don't mind the higher redemption limit when compared with the QS and I do like the 5% bonus - these are factors that make this card more attractive to people with higher spend I think.  The one concern I have is that Barclays is far more stingy when it comes to CL when compared with Capital One, and if they want to attract heavy users, they really need to up their game there.  Of course, people who really are heavy users have options out there better than 1.5% + 5% bonus.

I think 90% of the people would rather deal with Cap1 in general and their new nice CL's now than Barclay's.. Never thought there would be a day I said that!  Barclay's is just way to sensitive to new accounts and give rather low limits in comparison to most other lenders out there.  They are very conservative w/regards to their limits.  Not a bad thing as long as you know that going in with Barclay's.

To be fair, yes, a few of their cobranded are pretty but the blue gradients on their rewards, ring, and cash forward are hideous. I know it's off topic but it's maddening. SRY.

Agree my Hawaiian airlines card for example is gorgeous looking imoSmiley Happy.. Otherwise ya they need a new designer of their cards as they aren't that special anyways other than the SM which no one can apply for anymore..  Obviously value is in the eye of the person that wants to use a CC though.

Re: Barclays launches new 1.5% reward card

Not planning on dealing with Barclays OR Capital One.  Would rather have either Citi DC or Amex Fidelity (if I had a Fidelity account).

You can get the Amex Fidelity without a fidelity account.. Although opening  a cash management account aka checking account is the best for this card.  Completly free, no min balance and free atm withdrawls being they are reimbursed.. Can't go wrong with the cash management account.  I always withdrawl from this account vs. my main banking account due to no ATM fees.  then transfer money back to my cash management account from bank account as needed by ach.

I'm not particularly worried about having one beforehand, but having something to withdrawl whatever rewards into.

Citi DC is also known for issuing micro limits.  Fidelity is an Amex is has much lower acceptance than VS/MC.  If the purpose of a 1.5%-2% flat rewards card is to be an everyday spend catch-all then the DC and the Fidelity leave something to be desired.  Of course, some people have low spend or get higher DC limits and some people live in areas where Amex is widely accepted, so each person's experience will vary.

I'd love to get that FNBO 2% cards with a nice limit.  My application has been pending for almost 2 weeks now - it took them about 2 weeks to provide a decision on the Amex I have with them.

Re: Barclays launches new 1.5% reward card

Double Cash often gives low limits and sometimes it can be bumped up with a 2nd HP but of course, then you are obviously taking a second HP which some people find annoying.

For general spend and absolutely no redemption hassles, no annual fee, and no FTF I don't think there is anything better than a QS. Capital One as a whole has its issues but their reward program can't be beat with that card. The Double Cash gives a higher return with a slightly more complex structure and the Fidelity Amex being an amex has some acceptance issues (plus depends on  your tolerance for having to open a fidelity account, even if it is free, still can be a pain to open a new checking account).

I shop a lot of major retailers, so AMEX (and even Discover) acceptance isn't an issue.  An EDP would make a nice everyday spending card with the 30+ swipes bonus, conceding some transactions to an alternate VISA/MC but not much.
